Software Update: FP4.QREL.15.16.1.20260220155828 šŸ“²

Interesting. Popped out the KPN sim, rebooted, and instantly was offered the update. I guess I should now keep my fingers crossed that there’s no incompatibility, although O2 is my primary carrier anyway.

oh my bad, it is already available here https://android-builds.fairphone.com/FP4/A15/FP4.QREL.15.16.1.20260220155828.user-factory.zip (even if this page is not yet updated ) => and it worked! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I received the update on 6-Apr, which I guess is day 8 of the rollout. I’m in the UK; my carrier is spusu, a MVNO on EE. I’ve had no problems.

Thank you to all the developers and other team members including the beta testers who worked on this update.

I’m in Belgium, on the Proximus network. Still nothing after rebooting four times without my SIM… Still Android 13.

I just noticed that version FP4.QREL.15.16.1 is available on my Fairphone 4 with Orange France.

Has anyone else received it too?

Are there any issues with the installation?

Some feedback/comments about that update are already at Software Update: FP4.QREL.15.16.1.20260220155828 šŸ“²

Not really Orange specific so far, but you’d probably also want to know about stuff that is valid for all users independent of the operator.

I don’t get why the title of the first solved problem is in Italian

I’m on Orange Belgium and had my FP4 on Android 13 until this FP4.QREL.15.16.1 update popped up last tuesday. This update installed flawless. No problems so far.

A quick look back at my first impressions of Android 15 on my Fairphone 4:
I find that performance has deteriorated. Before, I could browse the web with Firefox while listening to music with VLC. Now, if I open an app that uses too many resources, the others get killed without warning.
Similarly, switching between apps has become risky. It’s happened to me several times that the app restarts, causing me to lose track of what I was doing.

Are other people having similar issues?

So since there so far it doesn’t seem to have any major bugs I finally upgraded to A15… :fearful:
So far so good, it didn’t do anything nasty (so far), but I still have two small, well, I hope just cosmetic annoyances:

  • * Phone network names aren’t consistently displayed on the status bar on top. Meaning, sometimes they are displayed, sometimes not (too early to see any pattern). – Edit: Scratch that, it’s actually the lock screen which still displays them. So apparently we truly lost the network names, like in 2023. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:
  • And, slightly more worrying, when connecting my phone to my computer, I now see 2 ā€œInternal shared storagesā€, named ā€œInternal shared storage (10001)ā€ and ā€œInternal shared storage (20002)ā€ (and of course my SD Card). What’s with that, and which one is the ā€œrealā€ one, the storage the phone actually uses? They seem to both contain the same files and folders.

(I’m also very disappointed the cute boot animation with the dancing blue dots is gone… It always cracked me up, reminding me of the dancing mushrooms in Fantasia. Replaced with a simple ā€œFairphoneā€ title, just in case you hadn’t noticed your phone is a Fairphone… Oh well.)

Anyway, has anybody any explanation/solution about my internal storage clone?

Hi Kurt,

The issues you mentioned do both not appear at my FP4. I’m on FP4.QREL.15.16.1

The network name ist displayed both on the lockscreen and the standard screen.

If I connect it to a computer (no matter if it’s Linux or Windows) it shows just one internal shared storage.

Strange

Similar situation here.

At last received the A15 upgrade today! Belgian Mega (Orange network) user. First boot went ok for now.

All quiet here in Germany, Deutsche Telekom

Updated. Same issue. At random points, apps freeze/crash/stop/pause, eg Spotify pocket casts mapmywalk, so that I have to play a track or podcast again. The most frustrating is mapmywalk (and it’s relatives) which stops proper distance, step counting etc and won’t save a walk. I can then open mapmyrun set on walk and continue but mapmywalk won’t function. At the same time Spotify or pocketcasts has stopped and needs playing again. Also, of the three buttons at the bottom of the home screen only the back arrow and circle (to show home screen) work. The square to swipe between open apps doesn’t work. I’ve the waited while, say, charging the phone and not using it for 30 minutes or so and when using again the square works. This seems to be a cluster of system and app errors that are connected suggesting something more fundamental about the operating system. This happens with both Nova and Niagara launchers. Help!

That’s very likely a known bug.
