Software Update: Fairphone (Gen. 6) - FP6.QREL.15.105.0

In low light conditions yes, however I guess thats quite subjective

As discussed here? I dont experience this

Same issues for me. At the moment I’m on fixed brightness mode. With 30% brightness it’s OK for me in most situations.
There’s a seperate discussion about this issue her:

Vodafone NL here and no updates so far. Going to try this solution asap, thanks!

Anyone who has not installed (or not been able to install) this update yet, you can help here:

I have bought my Fairphone 6 directly to Fairphone store and I don’t get why getting an update is related to which Sim provider I am using. Does that mean that If I never put a sim into the phone I would never get an update over Wifi ? It does not make any sense.

The exact mechanisms for the delay of updates depending on the provider are not completely determined as of now. I hope we will get an answer at some point. For Germany the main „culprit“ seems to be Vodafone (also all providers using their infrastructure), Deutsche Telekom to some extend and O2 seemingly without issues.

As for your question what happens if you never put an (e)SIM card in: it is actually the other way round. You will get all updates provided by Fairphone immediately as there will be no settings on the phone for any network that could prevent that.

Thanks for your thoughts, unfortunately I just did the test and that don’t work. I have removed my french SFR SIM, rebooted, activated Wifi, checked that network is up and there are still no update available.

It only works if you NEVER have put in a SIM card, as mentioned. Sorry. :slightly_frowning_face: Once you did, no removal or deactivation of the SIM will help (maybe if you reset the whole device - but that seems like a bit of overkill).

In your case…like in nearly all the other cases (mine included) you now have more or less the following options:

  1. Wait until your provider offers the update
  2. Manual update, see here: Manual updating
  3. Get hold of a SIM (even an deactivated one) from another network provider who hopefully provided the update already. Put it in, get the update, change the SIM back.

Please note that the provider is testing the update so it might be assumed that there are some reasons for the delay.

I do not recall people having the issue when circumventing the provider in a way described above, but wanted to mention it just in case.

Thanks for this info again. I guess i’m not the first to ask for him but my exchanges with the support were not very helpfull and din’t point on that manual solution.

I hope FairPhone will develop a safe and alternative way to update their phones because relying on network providers to test devices wich they won’t probably sell no more is illusional. It’s good to say they will support the phone during eight years but it’s pointless if the updates can’t be delivered.

Yep, that works! I got a free sim from another provider and as soon as I put it in the phone I got a pop-up that there was a Software update available.

Just to let know all the SFR users (I guess only French people). I ended up inserting my partner’s Orange (Sosh) sim card and the update poped up immediately. Updated and put back in the SFR sim afterwards. No issues at all so far with this method.

You have to put another SIM card and the update pop up appairs immediately. I have done the update with a colleague sim and it’s worked  hope SFR will be more efficient for the future update

Edit : after switching with a colleague SIM card the update notification showed up immediately. So I will maybe suscribe for a second line (backup line) maybe with eSIM. Do you know if it work if the eSIM provider support update and not the main one ?

You can always disable a SIM when necessary.
Settings > Network and Internet > SIMS > [your provider] > Use this SIM
