SIM stopped being recognised on Tuesday evening on Swiss Yallo/Sunrise network

One thing I notice is that we are all at Yallo. And Yallo is using the Sunrise network. It’s Sunrise who is decommissioning the 3G network since early June… and no one from Sunrise seems to have raised a hand mentioning the issue.

No idea if many more people are at Yallo than at Sunrise. Prices are much lower at Yallo as far as I know. But quite a lot of people also have the Qoqa deal.

Well all that to say that it points more to a very specific Yallo issue.

I am having the same issue, also using Yallo as a provider. Unfortunately for me, switching to eSIM didn’t seem to do much for the bad reception. It seems that since beginning of June, my phone just has very bad reception, especially in places like at home or at work.

Also the switch to eSIM was painful for me since I received no instructions how to do it, no QR code, from one day to another I had a useless SIM card with no reception.

As mentioned, there is likely a specific combo between yallo and FP6 that causes the issue. Whether it’s a specific in-SIM setting or hardware version, something makes the FP6 stumble when 3G isn’t there, and bugs the mobile connection negotiation, provoking various kinds of weird behaviours and side effects in Android 16.

As far as I know, Fairphone hasn’t bothered to investigate anything, putting the fault on Yallo without providing supporting evidence. I’m surely not a fan or advocate of Yallo, due to their pattern of acquiring customers with attractive offers, then endlessly spamming them to “upgrade” their plans, and increasing prices afterwards when that doesn’t work, but they’re the only ones who did raise a finger here (by replacing perfectly functional SIMs with newer ones, as this seems to work around the issue).

Also, to push the joke further, I’ve finally had a feedback on my 23 day old support request. It’s a template response, asking for my “help to test and diagnose the issue.” Follows a number of questions and tests to do, which pretty much have ALL BEEN DONE/ANSWERED IN MY INITIAL MESSAGE. Guess the person/bot couldn’t be bothered to read/analyze a single bit of the abundant details I provided. Good times.

So, concerns fully warranted, RIP to FP support (that happened to be good and reactive some years ago), and RIP to me recommending the brand to non tech-savvy people.

For @AddaAndreea it seems you are facing a different issue. This thread is not about bad reception, it’s about being unable to connect to the mobile network at all after 3G deactivation. What seems to happen in your case, is that you had decent 3G coverage, and poor 4/5G coverage after 3G deactivation. No SIM change will improve that, only a 4/5G Sunrise/Yallo tower closer or with a more direct line of sight to you will enhance the situation.

I´ve switchted to eSim for this FP6 on my Salt abo. Worst thing ever.

My physical Sim on my old Blackberry (Android 12, 4G - no more supprot for years) worked perfectly. Went eSim on the FP6, and i cannot access the mobile data abroad and SMS don´t get send out half of the time (in Switzerland and abroad).

When discussing with Salt, some say “of course, eSim is really problematic”, other “eSIM is the same as physical Sim, the problem is the phone, look on the forums”.

FP6 is so far not stable on dual sim use, and eSim seems to be the least functional of the 2. I´ve tried to remove the physical one and only run on eSim, similarily problematic.

For sure FP6 can run stable with dual SIM and eSIM can work perfectly fine. So this is often a provider specific issue.

After weeks of troubleshooting with the provider, they say it is phone specific…

Its still a combination at least, because my German e-SIM works perfectly fine. However its rather going off topic in my eyes as this topic here clearly is related to Yallo and some change in network.

It is the only thread discussing problem specifically with Swiss network providers and how they react when we discuss FP6 issue with them. I also experienced in June the weird SIM disconnect, with Salt, whereas here it is Sunrise/Yallo. So there seem to be swiss specific problems encountered.

Indeed its not a general topic about swiss providers its a very specific topic reg an issue with Yallo. so any other issues should not be discussed here.

I have discovered a setting that seemed to help me in regards to poor signal coverage and connection that keeps dropping. If I go to Settings → SIMs - > tap on my sim card → disable VoLTE, that fixes my issue. However the downside is that I cannot do any phone calls, so I need to enable it back again for that and then the problem with the data happens again.

Hope this helps someone else.

you better get a new SIM card when you are also using Yallo
