Signal not working on mobile data with Fairphone 5 running /e/OS

I’m experiencing a persistent issue where Signal does not connect over mobile data on my Fairphone 5 running /e/OS. The app works perfectly when connected to Wi-Fi, but fails to send or receive messages when using mobile data—even though other apps (browser, email, etc.) work fine.

Troubleshooting already attempted:

  • Verified correct APN settings for Orange Belgium

  • Disabled Advanced Privacy features in /e/OS (Hide My IP, Tracker Blocking).

  • Ensured Signal has permission to use mobile data and background data.

  • Cleared Signal cache.

  • Tested with different network modes (4G only, 5G disabled).

  • Confirmed mobile data works for other apps.

  • Deleted and reinstalled Signal

Still it contains two ideas which you might try out…:

1.) try using signal-foss

2.) adding com.google.android.gms to a deviceidle whitelist

I saw this in the Murena forum.

The solution was to turn off the following parameter
Settings > Network and Internet > SIMs > [your SIM] > Roaming
