This seems to be a 12MB module. I believe FP3+ has a 48MB Camera. Not sure I want to spend that much in a downgrade.

Actually the FP3+ camera module is also a 12Mpx camera, the ad was misleading, referring to the number of photosites instead of the number of pixels.

Thus, hardware downgrade would not be tremendous, as the upgrade was rather small. The most important upgrade to have with the FP3 is a software one, which is why Fairphone dumped the odea of a hardware upgrade for the next models (FP4 and FP5) and went in for a free camera software upgrade, which is actually much better and more ecological.

So for the FP3, changing the camera app to the Pixel port would improve the photo quality much more. You can use it with both FP3 and FP3+ camera modules for similar results but much better photos, especially in dark conditions.

No, just the standard screwdriver and if needed an opening pick to detach the screen and module connector (or a spudger for this last one), but you can use your fingernails if you dare!
