Screen unglued from FP3 - Buy Screen or new phone? Quiz

Hey, so on my FP3 the screen glass unglued during a bikepacking vacation. Now I am using electric tape to keep the screen on the phone.
Everything is still working. I just did a Reset of the phone - it was getting slow.
It it still slow.
I’ve got a sort of quiz or you all to vote on what you would do in your case:

  1. Would you just keep the phone working for as long as it holds on?
  2. Would you buy a replacement screen and repair it and keep using it as before for as long as the Phone still works?
  3. Would you buy a newer fairphone and keep this one as an emergency phone
  4. Would you buy another brand phone?

If my FP3 was running slow, it would be option 1 for me. I’d be too worried that the sluggishness was a precursor to ‘sudden death syndrome’ therefore reluctant to spend too much of my hard earned groats on a repair, certainly not on full price screen.

However I would look in the market place for a cheap second hand screen. Back in July @Antoine was selling some (and even giving some scratched ones away). I guess they’ve all gone but it might be worth searching to see if any become or are currently available.

No, since the FP3 is not waterproof and I need a more hydrophobic phone.

Would you buy a replacement screen and repair it and keep using it as before for as long as the Phone still works?

Not a new one, only if I get a used one for a few bucks (as it happend to me),

Would you buy a newer fairphone and keep this one as an emergency phone

If I have enough money: Yes

Would you buy another brand phone

If I don’t have enough money: Yes

We already changed the screen and the bottom module since the screen got unglued around the complete frame. I have the FP3 since the beginning and for me the above mentioned repair is worth the price.

I’m with Jens1. You’ll be able to pick up a used screen in the Market category, FP3s are getting sold for parts now.
Keeping your phone going as long as you reasonably can is the best choice for the planet!

@parchow I still have a screen, it’s as good as new, almost no scratch, and I’m selling it for 60€

Thank you. But I will be traveling for some time and have no time now to order things.

Up to you, I can send it worldwide !

Thanks, but early next week I’m going to India and I’ll be traveling around and still have no clear ideia of where I will be. It’ll be okay. thanks!

  1. No, unless I’m really attached to a phone and I’m not with Fairphone. I’d be looking to buy a new phone.
  2. No, if it’s slow and you reset it and it’s STILL slow, like Mariah loves to scream, ‘it’s time!’ Put it out of its misery and replace it.
  3. No! I’d recycle the old one and vow to never buy it ever again.
My FP3+ causes me stress with its tiny sound, poor camera and video (so bad in low light), low internal storage, far too much blue light, lack of options for third party cases, slow charging speed, third party and slow customer service etc so I wouldn’t give this company any more of my money.
  4. Yes, of another brand with far better specs than Fairphone. There’s so much choice!
