Screen can not be activated by pressing the power button

I rather believe it’s the same issue described here, so I moved the posts into this thread.

Unfortunately there is no solution yet…

My phone has started working perfectly normally again - and I have no idea why.

The only thing I’ve done since the problem arose is taken a backup using the built-in recovery mode, didn’t clear the cache or anything like that.

And now it’s doing it again. It started when I turned my screen brightness to minimum - the screen went black as if I’d locked it the moment I dragged the slider to the far left.

Sounds like some of the reports in the bugtopic below. Which software version (i.e. 16.xx) are you using?
https://forum.fairphone.com/t/black-screen-after-reboot-if-brightness-is-set-to-zero-or-adaptive-fixed-with-1-4-2-16-06/18752?u=johannes&source_topic_id=19478

I’m using 16.06 - it seems to be working normally now, after two reboots.

A post was merged into an existing topic: Fairphone 2 touchscreen suddenly freezes

My FP2 freezes during black screen. It won’t come out of Black Screen anymore, unless I restart using the start button. It happens both during charging and without charging, but never when the screen is activated. It’s like a sleep mode that doesn’t reactivate.

Anyone experiences this and found a cause?

I moved your post here in accordance with the #blackscreenguide.

PS: It could be a connection problem, so try taking off the screen and carefully cleaning the contacts.

I have thought about that too, but that didn’t help. Interestingly, I have my FP2 since last year April and this issue has only come up since the update before the last. Currently I run Fairphone OS 1.10.1. It happens seemingly randomly, sometimes when the phone is lying on my desk.

I’m also getting regular blackscreens as described in this thread. It used to happen only once every 2-3 weeks, but lately it’s happened multiple times per week.

This is the last exception trace I found in the logcat:

Could that have something to do with the freezes?

Over last few days I have been experiencing issue, where my phone won’t wake up from sleep (no response on the display) and has to be forced to reset by holding the sleep/power button for 10 seconds. Is this a known issue? Any suggestions?
Thanks

Hey,

My FP2 is 7 months old and I already bought a new battery.

The screen stays randomly black when the phone is on and good battery level. And I have a yellow LED light.

Nothing happens when I push the power button, also for 10 sec. So, I have to open the phone, take the battery off and put it again in order to re-start the phone.

Somebody has a solution?

Thank you!

I moved your post here according to the #blackscreenguide.

To rule out a hardware issue please take off the screen and carefully clean the connectors.

Hello,

I received a new fairphone after having to return the first one with the “random reboots” issue.
The new one seemed to work just fine until I found out there was the blackscreen issue.

Randomly, the screen turns black and it’s impossible to use the screen for the next 5-10minutes, tho I can use the buttons (for instance, I took screenshots).
If it blacks out while I’m using it, the screen turns bright and makes a flash before turning black.

I have tried wiping the cache five minutes ago but it didnt do anything to the blackscreen issue.

Has anyone found a workaround for this so far ?

Follow-up i dismounted the screen today to clean the connectors.
The blackscreen was back as soon as I turned on my phone.

Hello,

I have a very annoying problem with my FP2. Several times when I want to use my FP2 and press the upper right button my screen won’t come back. The FP2 hasn’t shut down but there is no possibility to acces the screen the only thing I can do is remove the battery and restart my FP2.I have the latest OS-version. What is the problem here?

Bart

I have the same problem as described above. Does anyone know if a solution to it has been found?

@Cjohnsonlives, @langga, @laurevdl, @Nordsman, @Flor, @Clement, @Jonas_Gruska, @BauAC, @HannSche, @tkos, @faltpihl, @Bart_Mertens, @mike2, @corngep, @shwilson, @dbrgn

Please try uninstalling the Facebook App if you still have this issue.

Does that solve it?

  • Yes (No more blackscreens without the Facebook App)
  • No (but it’s better)
  • No (No changes)
  • I never had the Facebook App and still have the issue
  • The issue solved itself for another reason.

If it’s indeed FB related you can continue here:

Hello,

I don’t have the facebook app. Even never installed it (and probably never will  )
