I can only guess that this about Pie for the FP2. Any other ideas?

I think Fairphone wouldn’t beat the drums for weeks just for Android 9 for the FP2. All four cryptic hints so far combined here:

Separately here:

I am pretty sure it will be a new product that you can touch with your hands and fingers … I also strongly tend towards what it will be like, but I don’t want to pronounce it as my prognoses have the fatal tendency to prevent themselves from becoming true

Anyway, I guess it cannot hurt to link to the announcement feed for thursday

You are right. I missed the Twitter riddles, this has to be a new product coming. Anybody who can interpret the puzzling insinuations?

Maybe too wild a guess but still:

It’s going to be a display/case
Made mostly from recycled materials
That you can connect to your FP3
To get something like a tablet

I think there once was a concept like this where you could insert your phone into a case with a big display and an additional, large battery, so you could convert your smartphone into a tablet, where data, storage and processing power came from the phone and the case just provided the larger display and corresponding power supply.

Or maybe something like the Shift mu?

@Ingo I’m not quite sure about this because Fairphone is more about durability and ethics than innovation. Also Fairphone is already a niche product. So making a niche product of a niche product will make a product like this really difficult to sell. I like this idea nevertheless, but I think that it’s out of reach for Fairphone currently. ^^

By the way, the text under the YouTube placeholder suggests it might still be not new hardware, but a “project”.

The 27th of August will be a huge day for Fairphone. Join us, virtually, for the reveal of our latest milestone on our mission to create fairer electronics.

Our industry is driven by innovation. But here’s the thing: these days, innovation is only incremental. That means there’s only the tiniest difference between one model and the next, and in fact, most new smartphones are very similar.

But that doesn’t seem to matter. So companies stick to their same business models, and consumers keep buying new phones, even if their old ones are still working. Fairphone wants to introduce an alternative perspective on innovation. One that is sustainable and fairer to the people, the planet and our community.

We’ve been working hard to bring you this unique, industry-leading project - And now, we’re finally ready to share it with the world.
