Hi, first post.
In my research, I couldn’t get past un-googled OS on google hardware “pixel”. I don’t trust google, nor do I want to pay them for anything. Same with Microsoft in their Windows 11 spyware. So, I want to come as close to possible to replace both in this new year. Here’s what I’d like in a phone and desktop which could be the same device if a docking solution works. I already have my windows desktop hooked up to a 4-way hdmi switchbox. I realize hdmi may be difficult for a phone. I looked at Murena for phone and maybe tablet to replace my desktop, but then their tablet is pixel, and I won’t buy google.
I know some tablets have hdmi and usb out, so that might work, but I don’t see a common OS for both phone and tablet.
For Fairphone 5, I’m wondering about the popularity of Murena E/OS ?
Isn’t it more likely to come to fruition with Huawei’s HarmonyOS with all its ramifications?
Why are trying to use a phone as a desktop pc/laptop? Maybe just get a lightweight laptop, install Linux + kde connect on it and your phone.
That’s over my head. Not familiar with Harmony.
I want both a new secure phone and get rid of my windows desktop as well. Ideally they would be separate devices, but I’m investigating options.
I just googled HUAWEI and I get whar you’re suggesting and if it work, yes I’d be interested. But I see they are not compatible with U S market networks.
You will have much easier time using two separate devices than to find out how to use one for both use cases (its realistically not there yet).
As for recommendations, I don’t know how good is eOS, I have calyxOS and it was damn simple to flash it, but then again not everybody is into things like that.
As a desktop (laptop) you can buy one with Linux already installed (Tuxedo, Slimbook in Europe or System76 has great laptops in US) or you can buy something and install it yourself.
If you decide to install it yourself, do a quick search before buying anything if anyone has experience running Linux unless Linux is directly supported. Most recommended options seem to be Fedora (great out of the box experience), Linux Mint (looks a bit like older windows, very stable though) or Pop OS (best nvidia support).
I agree about two devices. I thought if the same OS were used on both, I’d like to try the phone first, which is one reason I wondered about trying to connect as a desktop. It wasn’t high on my list.
I’m looking pretty seriously at Mudita Kompakt for a dumb phone with a few smart-like features. I like that they offer side-loading of apps. I’d only need a few, so that’s a nice option, though non-native apps won’t perform as well. I’m going to get a couple Linux desktops for my wife and I. Mr. Gates decided that our windows hardware doesn’t allow enough snooping support for his new “Recall Snooper”, I’m guessing. That was the final straw. Google… same thing; sick of being treated like the movie 1984. I’m quitting now; I’ve had enough. Smart TVs / Roku boxes are next. My tank finally overflowed from government and tech overreach enima. I should be reading more Bible anyway. Thanks for your input.
