Recents button not responding when using 3 button navigation

Hi,

I use 3 button navigation. In the last few days I’ve had a problem where the recents button stops responding until I reboot the device. Changing to gesture navigation makes the recents gesture work, but changing back to 3 button navigation does not fix the issue. No idea what causes this.

Had this a few times too. Annoying.

Hi,

update on this: I don’t think I’ve had this happen again in the last week until today. I was however out and about and couldn’t be bothered to reboot. I switched to gesture navigation and used the phone fairly normally for a few hours. When I got back home and was about to finally reboot I tested switching back to 3-button navigation and the recents button had started working again.

Therefore this is technically not a “reboot necessary” problem if that helps in possibly finding the cause. Still really bothersome.

I have same problem and the only thing that worked was reset app preferences but after some hours again got broken, Fairphone, fix your useless potato phone or I’m returning it. Guess what this issue is more than a year old and they don’t give a damn we all need to start returning this useless phone that can’t even do a basic thing like using recent apps.

For me it works from an open App, however not from homescreen, however I use a third party Launcher not sure if this could be related.

Just bought a Fairphone 6 and I get this issue quite often. I am using Lawnchair launcher due to having double tap sleep feature and infinite home screen loop, so not sure if it is related to the launcher or not.

Any news on this issue?

I also use a non-Quickstep launcher, Ion launcher, and don’t feel like messing up my “workflow” by switching back just in hopes of diagnosing/fixing this.

None of the updates have changed it for me. Keeps on happening with seemingly no regularity. Sometimes it happens everyday, sometimes not for weeks.

I haven’t had much luck anymore with the trick of switching to gestures, killing all apps from memory and then force stopping the launcher from settings. I usually end up needing to just reboot.

The fact that that has worked tells me it is some weird buggy interaction between apps and OS. I’m not well-versed enough in getting logs out of Android, but I’d imagine those would show what the error is. Next time it happens I’ll maybe try to get the logs through adb and hope it isn’t anything readable only to root.

So, lawnchair has a restart option. Tried that and the recent apps button still wasn’t working.

I reconfigured quickstep as my default home app and the recent button suddenly started to work. Immediately I configured lawnchair again as default home app and recent button keeps working.

No phone reboot.

Also, I’m using the lawnchair vesion which is installed via F-Droid, not Google Play.

For me (using “Smart Launcher”) it’s sufficient to “force stop” Quickstep to get the recents button working again. No restart (phone/ launcher) required.

Yep works for me too. Using lawnchair home app.

I have that issue too. The workaround of opening setting, app, force stop quick step works. But it’s annoying. Hope they’ll do something about it.

You dont use the default launcher correct?

Also I will merge your topic here

Welp, since I find no other thread about this for the fairphone 6, and that the workaround found for the other phone doesn’t exist (ex.: Disabling desktop mode, as the setting is non existant on the FP6). I’m reporting this here:

When using 3 buttons navigation, sometimes, pressing the square doesn’t work at all.

Workaround I found when the square stops responding, thanks to other post, is force stopping “Quickstep” from the application tab in settings.

Hopefully I can provide additional information if some are missing, to have this issue fixed, as I have to force stop the quickstep app like twice a day.

I use a third party launcher indeed, Niagara Launcher to be more precise. But I do hope it’s gonna be fixed. Because I like the way Niagara behaves.

I just had this issue pop up out of the blue on my FP5. No new app, no update install, but it just happened for the first time in 2.5 years, three times in a week. The recents button (the square one) becomes useless. I’m using the Microsoft launcher, and I’ve managed to fix this by switching to the Quickstep launcher, then try it, then switch back to the Microsoft launcher.
