Reboots after A15 upgrade

Mine ,does it every morning after I open the phone for the first time

I think that is the time when your phone lookes for a new update - in my case the reboot is exact at that time.

I tried manually changing the time to 07:04 and waiting (after it had already rebooted this morning) and it did not reboot again - but maybe the update script has an “if you haven’t checked for updates on 24 hours, check again” clause.

I’ll try changing the time zone though to see if that has an impact

This seems to be true. Haven’t been awake before this time to make sure about the exact minute.

Every morning, when I first look at the phone it will either start 1-2 reboots or sometimes I will find it already waiting for the SIM PIN.

Kvaesitso launcher, convinced launcher is irrelevant.

Ok, timezone doesn’t seem to have an effect, but curiously, my phone rebooted at 07:37 this morning, not 07:05.

Any way to disable automatic update check? Disable wifi & mobile data?

Please check in your settings-system-systemupdates the time when your phone looked for the update - I guess it is 07:37.

That is good to know, but I am holding out for a fix. It would be nuts if they issued an update that rendered all these phones useless unless they do a full factory reset? That isn’t progress and it should be pretty embarrassing for the FP team, I really hope they are working on a fix

Since the update my phone just randomly shuts down, sometimes at wildly inconvenient times… waiting for a ride share, making a payment, filing a support ticket for this ridiculous issue with the update. I have been a long time loyalist because supporting ethical supply chains is important to me, but no use taping into a supply chain that doesn’t yield a working product. My hope is that they send a fix very soon.

Hello,

I also have had the rebooting/type the SIM code problem since the update from Android 13 to 15 was defied on on my FP4.

It seems random, and less frequent recently… hopefully it will stop rebooting by itself.

Anyone: please try to disable 5G in wireless settings. It seems to me A15 is a bit more picky about 5G connection. Just allow only 2/3/4G.

Just had another reboot just after unlocking the phone at 13:15.

Checked the last intent for update as suggested by another reply. Right after the reboot at 13:15, last update check was at 13:17, so that does not help much because I guess it looks for an update after each reboot anyway.

Hello,

At the moment while travelling on a but I felt a vibration from my within my bag.

I thought, wow they have have improved the weak vibration system.

But in fact my phone had just restarted…:face_with_peeking_eye:

I sent a request to Fairphone Support.

“The phone reboots itself without warnings at least since the update to Android took place. At least ten times since the update.

If find it in the state where it asks for the SIM code.

Never had this before the update.”

Chipping in to report that I am experiencing the same random reboot issues after the Android15 upgrade. There also was one Google Play system update right after that.

  • Android security update
    October 5, 2025
  • Google Play system update
    September 1, 2025
  • Baseband version
    S.HI.2.5.1.c4-00010-BITRA_GEN_PACK-1.121005.3, S.HI.2.5.1.c4-00010-BITRA_GEN_PACK-1.121005.3 (why 2 times?)
  • Kernel version
    4.19.325-cip123-st7-pref+
    #1 Thu 11 10:21:09 CEST 2025
  • Build Number
    FP4.QREL.15.14.3

As for my FP4 setup, I never used another launcher than the stock one. The only tinkering was replacing the search bar with DuckDuckGo and setting VPN to DuckDuckGo in order to cut down on any apps’ tracking, and (apparently) enabling the following developer options:

  • Verify bytecode of debuggable apps
Allow ART to verify bytecode for debuggable apps
  • Wi-Fi scan throttling
Reduces battery drain & improves network performance
  • Mobile data always active
Always keep mobile data active even when Wi-Fi is active (for fast network switching).
  • Tethering hardware acceleration
Use tethering hardware acceleration if available
  • Stylus handwriting
When enabled, current input method receives stylus MotionEvent if an Editor is focussed.

(I say “apparently” as I honestly don’t recall touching these. What I did use developer options for in the past mostly was to tinker with the “animation scale” settings, as there was a time where UI animations would sometimes all suddenly become much slower than normal.)

Anyway…

It’s got one physical SIM for the Vodafone NL network, no eSIM.

Btw, while researching my phone settings as I was typing this post, a number of times I was greeted with a PopUp message reporting that “NXTVISION keeps stopping”, with the option to “Stop the app”, which I did…

I don’t know what the NXTVISION app is or what it’s doing on my phone, it seems to be part of the base install, as it cannot be uninstalled or disabled apparently.

Ciao a tutti.

Peccato, peccato, peccato.

Hello, everyone.

Update on the situation.

Now it has restarted when I tried to answer a normal phone call.

Background: I have been waiting for months for assistance with the battery that I changed directly from the Fairphone website, because they sent me a defective one. Imagine how long I will have to wait for the restart problem to be fixed.

What a shame, what a shame, what a shame.

Nxtvision is a part of the display driver. Not much you can do about that.

Good to know!

Still, the “NXTVISION keeps stopping” message is almost as disturbing as the random reboots… it shouldn’t happen.

Me too!
Since the moment Android 15 landed on my FP4 it has been randomly rebooting.
I’ve tried:

  • safe mode

  • remove physical SIM

  • disabled fingerprint unlock

  • airplane mode

  • wifi off

  • NFC off

  • charging

  • not charging

  • tried a difference launcher

  • removed google search from home screen

  • turned off 5g

… all don’t prevent the random reboots.
It always reboots first thing in the morning (within about ten mins, whether it has or hasn’t been on charge, and no matter what the battey %) when I open up my phone and sometimes at other times.
I haven’t done a factory reset yet because that is a huge faff, and from what I’m reading here, I’m not convinced it will work. I’d rather roll back to a previous Android version first.
Anyone found something that works? Or know a way to roll the update back?
Have logged with Fairphone, and awaiting reply. But would quite like to resolve this to have a usable phone again.
    Thanks all!
P.S. I am also getting the NXTVISION keeps stopping notifications.
