I am having the same problem, in addition to rebooting once or twice in the morning, it may also happen at later times if the phone has not been used for a prolonged period.
I am currently following the self-repair troubleshooting steps to the point where I have done a factory reset. I am currently still testing whether this resolves the issue.
To summarize the things I tried in the meanwhile:
Update latest software: Already at latest, problem persists.
Disabled 4G calling & WiFi calling: problem persists.
Disable WiFi, Bluetooth and NFC: problem persists.
Reboot in safe mode: problem persists.
Removed SD card: problem persists.
Disabled eSIM: problem persists.
Factory reset: pending…
I hope Fairphone comes with a better solution than suggesting a factory reset through their automatic troubleshooter. I am currently reinstalling a lot of applications manually because the Android-based backup and restore apparently only backs up applications installed through Google Play Store, any other apps are simply not restored, which is really annoying.
Hello and welcome to the forum.
The alternative solution currently explored at the forum is to change the default launcher. It is definitely less painful than a factory reset, perhaps you could try that?
I did indeed try changing the launcher. I was originally using ‘Fossify Launcher’ (even before the upgrade) when the problems began. When rebooting into safe mode, this launcher gets disabled and the default launcher gets reset to Quickstep, however that too did not resolve the problem for me.
Thank you.
But anyway, switching to Kiss Launcher, I encounter the same problem! My Fairphone 4 keeps restarting.
I noticed that it restarts when I launch apps from the locked screen to the unlocked screen.
However, I tell myself that, apart from needing time (which unfortunately not everyone has, including me) to devote to solving, understanding, tinkering and so on… could the problem be something else?
Do yourself a favour and switch to a different smartphone. Unless you really enjoy spending a lot of time tinkering with your smartphone, trying out new things and are extremely resistant to frustration, a Fairphone makes no sense.
What happened?
At first, users did not experience any problems.
Then an upgrade was released.
Suddenly, users started experiencing problems with the default home screen.
It is not to be expected that an upgrade affecting all users due to a change in the software would cause something in the phone’s hardware to malfunction.
The logical conclusion is that it is due to the upgrade.
Fairphone is working hard to resolve the issue.
Why does the KISS launcher not have the desired effect for you? I do not know.
Perhaps you could try a different launcher.
Just wanted to report that the factory reset seemed to have resolved the problem for me.
Note: I have restored from backup which restored my Google Play apps, apps from other app stores (e.g. F-Droid) and sideloaded apps are not backed up so I had to reinstall them manually, which was a bit frustrating. I think the only difference now is that I’ve chose to not reinstall Fossify launcher and stick with Quickstep.
Unfortunately, I can understand this is not the preferred solution for most people, as it’s quite a nuclear option. Just letting you people know it is a solution. Personally, I think the people at Fairphone should acknowledge and investigate this issue.
Do us a favor and stop ranting about a phone you don not even use anymore. Or do you rant just because you like ranting? This is IMO not very helpful for others here.
The '“changing launcher” fix works only for a different A15 update issue (which apparently doesn’t just affect Orange users), resulting in a crashing launcher.
There is (so far) no proven workaround for random reboots, AFAIK.
