I experience a problem with my brand new Fairphone 6 with Google OS that it’s generally soooooo slow at receiving SMSs with codes for two-factor authentication. Sometimes it do come within 10 min, and I’m able to use it at the very last minute, but other times they can come as late as the day after I “ordered” them. That’s actually quite annoying. I don’t discard that this, as this other problem I’m facing that I describe in another post ( FP6 intermittently fails to receive calls and text ), could be a provider issue, not a phone issue. I just wanted to check if anyone else has experienced a similar problem with their phones.
I have an eSIM, new to my Fairphone, and my last phone was a 7-8 yrs old Samsung Galaxy S9.
Hi!
I would check the APN settings for your sim card. Even if provisioned automatically, some parameters might be wrong creating issues.
Also, consider that if you are in roaming (not sure if you are) 2 factor sms tend to suffer. I’ve seen it many times with different phones and sims. Also government systems from abroad (my case Poland with Spanish and Swedish sim cards).
Thank you for replying. I’ve filled inn the correct APN-settings as they didn’t appear by themselves, and the lack of right settings was causing problems with mobile network for internet and receiving MMS. Now the latter to are working decently, but I still do have issues with the reception of codes. Is there still another place, other than MMS and internet where I have to add some settings?
And no, I’m not roaming. I’m in my home country with a national provider.
Is it an option for you to switch to a different type of two factor auth, e.g. TOTP?
It depends on the service that you use. Most services support multiple methods for the second factor. Which service has the 10 minute timer for SMS?
