OS update problems: "Can't open file" and widgets gone

I open this new topic because I think it would be difficult to continue the discussion in a thread with > 200 contributions, and growing.

Continuing the discussion from Software update Kola Nut 1.8:

Tried to update today. Result: most widgets gone, but it says Can’t open file when I check the update. No idea why it doesn’t open, I have over 14 GB free dataspace.Can’t work the google updater b/c of the failed download.

I still got problems. I tried to install the update, after that a lot of things were gone from my phone, but I still got a message saying “Can’t open file”. So I can’t install playstore etc.etc.
texting lost the swipe function, some apps are gone (besides the google ones), and erratic glitching (spooky commands when nothing is touched) seems to have increased.
can I respond in Dutch?

Disclaimer: I can’t properly respond in Dutch, and I have not yet updated the FP OS to 1.8 “Kola Nut”. (But I’ll try to help, anyway.)

• First, could you check in the Fairphone Updater app which version you are currently running?
• Then, could you, while being connected to WiFi, tell us what the Fairphone Updater app shows you (or maybe post a screenshot)?
• Furthermore, did you run a backup? If so, which backup app did you use?
