Options for software bricking phones out of warranty

Having seen the report of software bricked phones for the FP4 mistaken update rollout, Luckily mine didn’t brick after the recent update and reboot.

If someone has a fairphone without warranty (bought from some rando online), and bricked by an update, what options are there for the user? Can those still be sent for servicing at cost? And if the cause of the problem is the fairphone software, would they do it at their expense (minus shipping fees)?

Couldn’t find the answer in the forum, but it’d be nice to know.

When the FPOS update bricked it I wpuld say its still FP to pay else unbricking is around 50€ so not that expensive.

However this is an answer for Fairphone directly.
