Hello community,
From one moment to the other, no media sound comes through. It didn’t occur after updating any software. I can make phone calls, but all media I play are mute. Somewhere in the forum I read about the testoption via calling this special 2886 number, but after the last * the screen went blank for a long time, way longer than a few seconds.
I thought a new security update would help, but now, using /e/OS 4.0-a14-20260610633982-official-FP4 still no media sound is to be heard.
When in settings, under the option ‘Sound’ the swicht for Media Volume, is greyish, not adaptable, unlike the others which I can adjust.
What to do? Does anyone have a suggestion?
Thanks, Emile
also via Loudspeaker? The testmenu is currently broken.
Correct, @yvmuell, phonecalls are okay, also via Loudspeaker. It’s just the sound of media apps that is being muted. Any idea when this menu will be operational again?
No, no idea.
So the App used to play media is it the same after the change to e/OS or a different one?
It is the same one. I either use youtube or Duckplayer
Well as its the same and Calls over Loudspeaker are working I rather doubt its hardware.
Can you test another media player ? Is duckplayer the browser DuckDuckgo? If not can you play any YT video using your Browser?
The same: no sound
Wish I could send a screenshot showing the message that I get. When adjusting the sound level (with the side buttons of the device), this popup menu appears, showing this icon that loudspeakers are active ánd that the level is at its lowest (icon of a circle with a horizontal line in it)
BTW the device came with e/OS
I had the same way of reasoning, that it probably is a software issue. That’s why I trusted the newest security update to solve the problem, which it didn’t.
If you’re only having issues with playing media in the browser, maybe it’s your browser site permissions. If you go into the settings and look for ‘site settings’ (I’m using Edge, so it might be called something similar in other browsers). Then look for Site Permissions. Have a look through what’s allowed or disabled. Your camera, microphone etc will be listed, but you should also have a speaker permissions setting. You might find the speaker is not allowed to be used by sites, and so when you play audio, it looks like it’s working but the browser is not actually allowing audio.
Thanks @Kenny , it appeared that I had switched on the ‘don’t interrupt’ option for the browser.
