I think already a few updates ago my phone all of a sudden stopped connecting to my computer.
I get this message when I do:
'Can’t access device storage’
and then it asks if my device screen is locked, which I don’t believe it is, nor ever was is the past.
I was able to connect fine in the past so I know it’s not the cable.
Is there something I’m missing?

Did you make sure that you have MTP selected as data transfer setting?
(when connecting a cable, you get the usb-connection menu when scrolling down from the top)

That’s not necessarily true. Cables can break and they do that a lot.
True, but I’ve checked with other cables to be sure…

I wasn’t seeing the USB options for some reason, then it showed up!
