New hearing aids and lack of phone - aids connection

Hi, I have recently had new Starkey Omega hearing aids fitted but since then not only can I not hear a phone call through my paired hearing aids but also I can’t hear the caller through my fairphone 4 handset either unless I press ‘speaker’ at the beginning of each phone call. Any helpful suggestions gratefully received! Thanks , Neil

When you go to the app Settings
Then Connected devices
What do you see?
At my phone I see both hearing aids with a bluetooth icon and my right hearing aid with a headphone icon.
When I tap on the last I can choose if I want to use it for calls.
This is on my Fairphone 6+ and was like this on my Fairphone 5.
I use Phonak hearing aids and have the app from Phonak installed.

Hey Neil,
maybe you can also check previous questions for Starkey hearing aids, if you haven’t checked them yet. Looks like re-pairing them might have helped some

Hi Jan, thanks for highlighting posts from people with a similar problem to mine (if my translation from French to English is correct). I think I will try go contact Fairphone and Starkey next, in case they have a solution. Neil

Hi, I looked at previous posts and with my audiologist have taken off the app completely now but phone calls still can’t be heard on my phone (I did try re-pairing first but that didn’t work either). I asked Tin, in the Fairphone live chat, whether there was some extra software I could apply and it replied that there is a known issue with audio devices with Fairphone 4 phones using Android 15, like mine, and that there was a software update to be released for that. When I asked it when it was going to be released it said it was unable to share that information, so it could be next week or it could be months. In the meantime, it has been suggested that because trying to pair my new hearing aids has triggered a problem that wasn’t rectified by uninstalling the Starkey app and impairing the hearing aids, I should try to do a factory reset and see if that resolves the issue. What do you and others on the forum think about that and is there anyone out there who can tell me when the software update I was informed about by livechat is going to be ? Thanks.

True that, wasn’t aware of it. See the issue tracker: https://support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/articles/9831446296849-Public-issue-tracker#h_01K362N8T87ZYEE4VK0S2PE6K6

About timing of fixes: Only Fairphone will know. Through the chat where you contacted Tin you can reach real person support during some working hours during the week (Amsterdam timezone), exact times should be mentioned there. Try to ask support about it, but usually they won’t promise any release dates

“Fix incoming” on the issue tracker is more promising though than “under review” of many other issues. Sound to me like the fix is already there, just needs a release

Thanks, Jan. I will try to ask a person in support about it next week. It seems to me that if it’s an issue with the Android 15 that I have already installed on my phone then if I do a factory reset and reinstall the same Android 15 then I’ll still have the same problem. So I will try to speak to someone in support and hope that like you suggest, 'fix incoming ’ might mean it will be released soon.

Talking to a person via live chat is a brilliant idea.
I am chiming in only on the schedule of software updates. Fairphone 4 is now on bimonthly schedule, the last update released in August. I would say the earliest time to expect a fix would be October (assuming the incoming update does include the fix in question)

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I’ve done a factory reset on my fairphone 4 and it’s back working as a phone again. It was a bit of a drastic step I had to take but I did it and I can hear callers when they call again and they can hear me so that’s good. Yeah, hopefully the software update will be released by October and then Fairphone 4 with hearing aids users won’t all be caught in the glitch like I was.
