My fairphone 6 died suddenly

did you “only” open a ticket or was there any chance to directly request a repair? I guess this would speed up, however I’m 99.9% sure your data are lost and repair would reset, if for any reason not completely dead

How widespread is this problem – is it limited to only a certain batch, or a teething problem that can be fixed by software updates? Is it likely to impact the normal use of a new Fairphone 6 with /e/OS?

So far we didn’t get that statement.
@Fairphone_CM could you please get us something?

@kaihsu as precaution I’d stick with a slow charger.
So far we saw it on Android, and then apparently got fixed by software (no official notes). And then in appeared in /e/os too, no clue if fixed or not.
Maybe someone can put accubattery and plug to a fast charger to check the current if Eco mode is enabled. But I run android so I cannot do it myself.

I sent the phone on the next day, from Brazil… Extremely inconvenient… I didn’t want to buy the phone from Brazil because of ridiculous taxes, basically I would have to pay 2x the phone or more.

Because of that I got it in Europe while traveling and lo and behold, the first phone that I own that I had to apply for warranty… And they don’t cover where I am… Sending it is easy, I have a friend and family in Europe that can help me, the problem is sending it back, how can I justify that it was an service repair now? Tax authorities won’t believe me because it wasn’t shipped directly to the manufacturer and the manufacturer won’t ship directly to me either… This is extremely frustrating because it is exactly what I wanted to avoid in the first place!

Maybe Fairphone is not for me. Never had an issue like this before on any other phone. It is very concerning, what if it would have overheated and burned the furniture or my home…

I think here there are different things, many personal.
I’d never buy a phone without warranty after my Nokia N8 died and the warranty was from another country. It was a mega hustle to get it fixed. Buying like that implies you accept problems can happen and might end up without neither the phone nor the money. Issues happen with all brands. On this topic, still, I’m willing to hear an official statement.

I don’t think it could damage furniture, the internals burn but not anything outside. It’s bit like Samsung S 6 or 7 battery that blew up.
I understand the frustration, I’ve been there.

Don’t be, this is under warranty

Hi all,

I have a FP6 since July 2025.

Two days ago, I was working on my computer with FP6 in tethering and suddenly no more internet connection on my laptop.

FP6 has a black screen, no reaction when I push on any button.

Tried to connect to a charger, no reaction.

Check the FP6 charger, it is working with another equipment.

I tried to remove the battery for 2 hours then connect again. No reaction.

I have checked that USB-C connection is ok, well plugged in, no dust in it. Everything is fine but no reaction.

I have noticed something strange with small cables at bottom right of the phone, under the speaker module.

White and black cables seem to have been crushed. I precise that I never opened the before before today. It was working fine.

Does someone know utility of those small cables ? For charging ? To power the phone with energy of battery ?

I have open a ticket on Fairphone website. The phone is guaranteed until 2030.

I like them. I used before a FP3 since 2020. It was a great phone.

But I am currently traveling and my FP6 was my only link with family, banking app, etc.

I am very very disappointed. For me, Fairphone was synonym of durability but not 8 months of use :frowning:

Do you know how much time it takes to have an answer and to have an functional phone again in hands ?

Do I have to buy another cheaper phone to do minimum tasks we are obliged to do by phone today such as bank, identification on gov sites, etc ?

Thanks a lot for your answers.

Edit : I forgot to mention that my FP6 is running e/OS/ 3.4 Official, it was bought from Fairphone Shop with Murena installed.

After a chat this morning with Fairphone, I have to send FP6 to their repair center.

Waiting for next step.

Thanks a lot to ‘Blake’ from Fairphone chat for his kindness.

Phone sent un warranty on Wednesday.

Waiting for news now…

Was your phone charging/connected to power when the issue occured? All people here reporting had the issue during charging.
(I’m asking because you wrote: FP6 was thering –> phone died –> connect to charger )

Yes the phone was connected to the computer so I suppose it was charging during tethering the network.

Why ? It is a possible error ?

I asked in my trouble ticket to have the cause of the problem. No answer at the moment.

Like I said, the problem people reported in this thread was dying FP6s because of charging issues. As there is still noch feedback from FP itself, it’s hard to say, but it seems that the charge controller was not “controlling” right. The phone probably got to many power and died/got fried.

Do you know how much power the USB-port of your computer delivers? Where you on the latest software-update, and did you have fast-charging enabled?

I don’t know the pozer of USB of computer.

I didn’t change anything about quick/slow charging. I was not aware it is possible to define that in FP6.

Regarding OS, the phone was in 3.4 official e/OS/ frol Murena.

People set “slow charging” in their settings as a workaround to prevent fast charging (high power). There was a bug in older FairphoneOS versions where the slow charging setting wasn’t working and the phone still was fast charging. It was apparently fixed around the dezember 25 update in FPOS, I don’t know about /e/OS.

Ok. I was not aware of that.

In e/OS/ I have activated a limit to charge the battery but I don’t remember an available switch to choose slow / fast charging.

I will check when I will have my phone again in hands cause it is in warranty repair for the moment.

Phone is back after 1,5 week in warranty repair.

Quick this evening to test it. I will let you know.

Everything is fine, phone is working.

I don’t exactly know what happened and what has been repair in the phone.

But happy to have it working again.

Is it the same phone or a new one (new IMEI)?

The imei number is different. I suppose that mother board has been replaced…

this really scares me…thinking to return my fairphone 6 within 14 days…

i need fast charging, so using slow charging isnt an option…
