Good thing we have more choices, you have your experiences and I have mine.
To bad your having such a bad experience with Fairphone.
I don’t know if you already did but I would send them a last email with a round up, except my loss and then go look for a different brand… Maybe the one that is most present in the 30+ devices.
I got my Fairphone back from repair. They changed the Mainboard, Subboard, and FPC cable.
I reached out to the support to ask for any official guidance on how to prevent this from happening again but got nothing useful back.
After I have read very post on this issue, I have change my settings to slow charging. Should I have the same issue also with those settings then the only open is to send it in, let them repair it and sell it and never buy any Fairphone products again. There is only this guideline regarding what charger and cable should be used https://support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/articles/37697097288082-How-to-charge-your-Fairphone-battery. I already have a good quality charger and USB C cable and I’m not willing to experiment on a device and then try to copy the data to a different phone because the FP6 has died sudden on me.
Lucky you for at least getting a repair, I am currently being ghosted by FP support after a bit of back and forth. No reply since 9 days, luckily it’s not like a phone is essential for so many things these days. The only safe solution seems to be to turn off fast charging, which is a marketed feature - not a good look.
As previous mentioned this happend while using my Anker 65W charger. A charger that worked fine with all my other USB-C devices for years.
Just using a official or recommended charger is not an acceptable solution for me. The point for me of USB-C PD is that I don’t have to do that. Especially since I was using a quality brand charger, that still charges all my other devices just fine. For years!
Turning off fast charging and just hope that its never going to happen again is also not practical for me.
I never got any status updates about the repair. The phone was in the mail ~10 days after sending it in.
But im afraid that this could happen again and again until the phone is out of warranty and I would have to pay for the repairs…

Yes, this does not not good and I would even go so far to call is an advertisement which cannot hold be true. As mentioned by @zuernerd the whole point of USB-C PD it that you can carry a single charger and the communication what amount of power the device can receive happen in the background. If the max. amount of power is 30W then 30W it is.
But for some reason this does not work well in the Fairphone 6 as this thread a proven to us. The only option is to disable fast charging which has been marketed to us as a feature but it’s broken. I never had any issues with my pervious Xiaomi phone and the Anker charger and the device has been fast charged for years (>4).
I empathise with your frustration, though claiming that the FP6 effectively has no fast charging because it’s “broken” without any real numbers to back it up is a bit of a stretch.
If there truly is a universal fast charging issue with the FP6 I’d expect a bit more of a fuss than a thread with 200 posts in just over a year. I’d love to see official repair numbers (and causes) but I doubt we’ll ever see those.
Maybe some day it’ll happen to me as well, but so far I’ve been using fast charging since day 1 with zero issues.
There seem to be enough cases to attract the attention of the press e.g. here in France. Am also experiencing no issue with my FP6 bought in July 2025 but I use a 1A charger…
I switched to slow charging before I knew of this issue because, I wondered if fast charging had caused the battery in my old FP3 to blow. Maybe it was just old age making it go at 6-7 years? Whichever, I find the battery life on my 6 is that much better than the 3 so even with slow charging, I don’t need to charge every day.
For the second time in 2 months my battery of the fp6 doesn’t charge. This happens after the battery is fully drained. I can’t charge it any more. I’m using different chargers.
According to an article on a French forum the problem is due to the main circuit board.
My questions what to do next send it again to Fairphone or open the dust pan and throw it away? If a phone is not reliable it becomes a pain in the ass. Especially because the exact problem doesn’t seem to be addressed and the Fairphone company remains silent.
I definitely wouldn’t throw it away. Even if you don’t want to keep using it, you can still get your motherboard replaced and sell it on eBay (and since warranty is transferable, you don’t even need to feel bad about it).
Both problems of the fp6 happened after the battery was almost drained. Do other users of this forum had also this experience? It looks like the fp6 can’t recover from an almost drained battery.
I’m using these two Anker charger and battery pack. See attachment. Normally charging with these apparatus doesn’t give any problems. Only with the battery is drained this kills the phone.
Wow this is a very long topic, is there a summary in it?
My (green) Fairphone 6 died suddenly after a year during (fast) charging at night. I sent it for repair, they swapped the motherboard under warrenty, this was all quite smooth.
just got it back last week, worked perfectly again, but last night it happened AGAIN…
I guess I’ll send it over again and afterward prevent fast charging? Or did I miss anything else?
This Anker charger is the same that killed my FP6 three times and I’ve seen it mentioned by other people in this here thread. FP should really investigate why it doesn’t play nice with the FP6. No problem with my other devices btw. I’m sending mine in to get a full refund now, which will be issued once the repair center has determined that this wasn’t my fault.
