Thanks for the link. I tuned in late in the launch event and I had little clue what they’re talking about. Listening to the Q&A now. Anyway, I really like their effort and such… hope they succeed (I already got a FP4)… but… Mediatek?! I don’t understand this choice.

It is basically the official launch of Murena which is the platform for /e/ and their underlying cloud infra. They also launch the Murena One (though they endorse FP4 as well, and ignoring MTK, I think its a decent alternative for people who don’t have a lot of money).

I wouldn’t call venturing out to have their very own phone produced nothing, as Fairphone would be able to tell you, I guess 
.
Even if you would go to a production partner and just take a design from the shelf and say “Here, this one, put our sticker on it and here we go!”, there would still be a ton of stuff to set up and manage for you which wasn’t there before.
