Manual app updating

I’ve had app-updating set to manual for over a year, but it has suddenly reverted to automatic updating, which I don’t want. And I can’t find back how to reset it to manual updating. How do I do this?

Are you using Google Play, F-Droid, Yalp or ???

Assuming it’s Google Play: in the Play store app’s settings there is an entry for automatic updates. The options are something like “always”, “WiFi only” and “never”. The latter would be “manual”.
