But if I add the softcase then I’d want a screen protector as well. This page says that the official screen protector weighs 12g: Fairphone 4 Screenprotector - Accessoires | Fairphone
I’m not sure if that is the weight of the package or just the screenprotector.
But it seems that saving 20g of weight by switching from the flipcase to the soft case + screen protector is really not that much. I had to use a spare phone (not fairphone) while my FP4 was being software reset in France. This spare phone weighs 170g, and the weight of the FP4 with the flipcase in comparison is a lot.
I have my FP4 since 2021 with just the softcase. No screen protector or anything.
The display has so far one scratch, and that’s from the beginnings (it is my first smartphone) when I put it in a pocket with keys. Apart from that, only very minor scratches which you won’t notice unless you turn off the screen and search for them.
So I think the display itself is alredy very durable and a screen protector is not required (of course depends on your usage patterns).
One thing I do to protect the phone is that when I need to shove it in a backpack full of stuff, I put the softcover upside down so that the majority of the display is covered with it (except for the camera cutout). You can’t use the phone in this state (even the unlock button is hidden), but for me, this is quite acceptable.
I’ve replaced the screen a while back, because it had scratches like that, from when I had it in my pocket with keys. This time I don’t want any scratches in the screen, so screen protector is not optional for me.
