I have a habit of putting my phone in my shorts pocket during bike trips. Unfortunately, my FP6 screen suddenly stopped working, leaving me lost in the middle of the road with no GPS and nothing but yellow and green stripes on the screen.
I contacted Fairphone support, but they refused to cover the repair under warranty, claiming that the issue was caused by humidity/condensation.
I suspect that the extremely hot weather this summer, combined with my body sweat, may have caused the damage. Has anyone experienced a similar issue with their FP6?
So yes there are discussions about such cases here in the forum, where no actual water did ingress the phone, but still the water indicators are red, assuming its coming from humidity. Nevertheless it might be that just a change of screen might help, the repair center normally does not test modules but suggests to change the core module to my understanding, so whats their suggestion?
Indeed they suggested to change the screen for 179€ which is twice the price of the screen on FP website, the other option is to pay 39€ to get the phone with the non function screen. If I pay neither the phone is going to be destriyed which is a shame after only 4 months.
I am really disappointed would like to know about the reasons to the water indicator malfunction, Could you share some links to discussions about the issue taht you mentionned ?
What? They are going to destroy your 4 month old FP if you don’t pay 39,- €? Is that in line with the law? And is this in line with their idea of sustainability? The more I read in the forum the less I’m convinced I made the right decision in buying a FP. My company already told me that they won’t buy FP any further as our business mobiles as there is no real professional service. I’m sorry for your experience and I hope you’ll find a solution.
I was also suprised by how radical the options were, for a sustainable company you expect at least a recycling option, also my experience with support was a complete disaster, very disappointed by the whole thing… Thank you for the supportive message !
