Thank you Paul! I list the links here, just in case someone else looks for them. It’s all Germany only. I will add short English summaries if I’ll find the time. Too bad that there is no video available from the event.
[[DE] Wie nachhaltig ist das Fairphone 2? Tina Trinks, Fairphone (“How sustainable is the Fairphone?”)]
Tina Trinks gives an overview (based on notes in the slides) about the FP project and its issues.
[DE] Wie nachhaltig ist das Fairphone 2? Ergebnisse der Expertenbefragung, Karsten Schischke (“How sustainable is the Fairphone 2? Results from an expert opinions survey”)
Twenty-two people/organisations were interviewed using a questionnaire.
The summery of the study (p. 29) reads roughly like this:
+ Showing improvements along every step the supply chain, pioneers regarding conflict materials
- On the market only the price counts, so the impact will be limited" (rough summary of p. 29)
+ Independent, hopefully it will stay like this
- Missing upgrade features will give the phone a lifespan matching that of other smartphones.
Check for continuous improvement, include other areas and enforce the highest possible standards.
To be broadly effective the FP must technically be comparable to current products.
Increased emphasis must be put on the the environmental and social advantages over its competitors
Personal comment: It’s interesting, I think there is a problem with the questionnaire. The very positive ratings (p. 27) do not match with the very critically answers in my mind. Also those that were asked seem to answer from their “guts” and not based on real information given by Fairphone. I wonder if this was tested before or if this is the intended design of the study.
