Is the Fairphone 4 compatible with a MacBook Air - macOS High Sierra 10.13.6? If so, would it be possible to transfer photos, videos or music between them?

Yes, that is all possible, however it might work a different way than you are familiar with. Basically, the process works like transferring these kinds of files to a plugin USB stick on your MacBook or to an external hard drive. However, the file transfer first needs to be activated on the FP4, and you might need to install a free software on your Mac to enable this. I think it’s too early now to explain it all in detail.

I am not aware of FP4 being any different in this respect to my FP3 and have been using Android File Transfer upon Mac for many years, albeit that you would need adaptor for MacBook Air such as:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/MacBook-Air-USB-Adapter/s?k=MacBook+Air+USB+Adapter
https://www.android.com/filetransfer/

Here is appropriate screenshot from Mac:

Android File Transfer has not been updated in many years…
I recommend Open MTP…

I used it a lot before I switched to Syncthing

Do not hesitate to ask any questions regarding one of these…I might not answer immediately but I will try to answer whenever I can…
Work is a bit crazy these days and I barely have time to breathe… :slightly_frowning_face:
