I’ve been having a serious problem with my Fairphone 4 for several months: I can no longer make or receive calls. When I call any number, the text “calling…” appears, then the call cuts off. When someone tries to call me, either the call cuts off and I appear busy, or the caller is sent to voicemail, which I can’t access either.
Previously, restarting the phone would allow calls for a short while, but now even that doesn’t work. I’ve tried disabling Wi-Fi calling, updating the Fairphone software, using a different SIM card, resetting APN settings, and resetting the network configuration, but nothing has worked.
I contacted Fairphone support via their app several months ago. After a long delay, they finally replied saying I need to use their troubleshooting app to diagnose the problem, except I already submitted the request via their app, and now my FP account isn’t recognized, and password reset emails don’t work.
I really love my Fairphone and haven’t had other issues, but this experience with them has been EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING. and has had several impacts on my work. At this point, I don’t know how to get proper help from them.
Has anyone experienced this problem and managed to solve it? Any advice on what I can do to restore calling functionality, or how to get support to actually help me?
I’m sorry to ready that you’ve had this problem already for so long and that you’re struggling with support.
Did you try to contact them via online chat yet? The next chance for that should probably be on Monday.
When writing “changed SIM card”: did you exchange the SIM card for your mobile contract or try or try out the SIM card of a different contract? If the first choice, then you might try the second just for trying to better identify the root cause of the problem.
I know it’s a hassle to re-setup your phone - but still you might consider to backup all relevant data and do a dic:factorydatareset .
I’ll try to contact support via the online chat on Monday ; I actually didn’t know this option existed, so thank you for pointing it out.
Regarding the SIM card, I already tried using a SIM card from a different operator (not just a replacement SIM for the same contract), and unfortunately it didn’t change anything. My network provider is edpnet, in Belgium.
I’ve also already tried resetting my network settings, but not a full factory reset of the phone yet. Do you think doing a complete factory reset could still make a difference in this case?
Additionally, I noticed that the IMS registration status is shown as “Not registered” on my phone. I’m not sure if this is related, but I thought it might be relevant to mention.
I think it could. The problem might have been caused by OS Upgrades, installed Apps a.s.o.
I suppose you also tried out your SIM in another phone and it worked? (although I would rather not see the SIM as a problem as you’ve even tried one from a different operator.
Did you try with enabling/disabling 5G/4G a.s.o? And enabling/disabling VoLTE and/or VoWifi? Again probably not as a final solution but at least to figure out more information…
And btw.: now rereading all described symptoms (I think IMS should rather be “registered”), it also comes to my mind that there might be a problem with the antenna? Does the phone show a strong mobile signal?
Thank you for your reply. Yes, trying my SIM card in another phone worked. I also tried the VoLTE, 5G/4G options, etc., all the options I had access to. And yes, the phone shows a strong signal. Sometimes my phone rings when someone calls me, but this has become extremely rare and quite random, and when it does happen, it only lasts a few minutes.
So I think I’m going to opt for a factory reset, I just need to take the time to back everything up. But thank you for your help
I’ll keep you posted on this thread if that solves the problem.
Maybe it already helps to delete memory and cache of the telephone-apps? Also you can try to deinstall the updates of these apps. I think it’s worth a try before resetting the device completely.
