How to move contacts back to default adress book in /e/OS

Hi,

FP3 - I used to sync my contacts via davdroid between phone and computer (posteo account). For some reason some contacs are now just on the phone. When I edit the contact I see this (it says Speicherort Gerät) but I cannot change it to default adress book.

Any ideas how I can fix this?

Thank you!

I’m assuming that you are using stock Fairphone OS, and not something like /e/ (Murena).

With Android, that’s not really a valid notion. You can have multiple address books maintained in a database on the phone (don’t worry, all of that happens in the background transarently, but it’s useful to know roughly what’s going on). A particular Contacts app may have access to that database, or only access to records it maintains within its own data. I won’t discuss data stored on the SIM (that dates back to the early days of mobile and would be confusing).
As for “default address book”, a contacts app should have a setting or “by default” use the last option you chose for a new contact.

“Davdroid” has been replaced with DAVx5 so I recommend you install that and set up sync with your posteo account.

For juggling with contacts, I recommend to not use the stock Android “Contacts” app (blue icon). It’s very Google-oriented and may disregard DAV-synced address books. Personally I use Fossify Contacts which is open source and lets you do what you want to do.

I have defined my posteo account as default one when adding a new account and that works perfectly fine.

I can also move a contact between options later, so for me the important question would be @Ruth_FP1 which apps are you using?

sorry, forget to mention that. indeed I do use /e/ as OS.

@yvmuell I use the regular contacts app on the FP.

I need to clean up these messy contacts, some exist double, once on the phone and once in the default address book. When I create a new contact I can define it and choose the default address book. But the state of things is now that I have both, and I don’t know where this came from. Or more importantly, how I can fix it.

edit: on my tablet I use thunderbird for the emails (and the posteo-page for the contacts). In thunderbird there are 5 (!) categories in the adressbook.

-Persönliches Adressbuch (25)

  • personal (2.251)
  • posteo-alt (1.012)
  • posteo (the current default) (1.994)
  • gesammelte Adressen (collected), fortunately empty.

wanted to try to unite them and delete doubles via myphoneexplorer, but haven’t gotten round to that yet…

As first step I would also recommend this

Than check the contacts App of e/OS (I dont know it) if there is really no way to update the contacts location from internal to posteo. In the above mentione Fossify App I can just open the contact scroll down, click on the addressbook name, select another and save.

For the tablet the question is which one is synched? Normally you shoul be able to tell the App which contacts to show so set a filter if dont want to see contacts from other sources/accounts…

Edit: check for meetups meetup or angel fairphoneangels in your region, as it might be much easier to check in person together

I agree! Forum isn’t really the best place for detailed work (though one sees impressive threads sometimes…)
