Fairphone is saying that the FP4 will get software updates up to Android 15, but how is this going to work, when Qualcomm is not providing firmware for the Snapdragon SoC.
Welcome to the Fairphone community.
In the same manner, as for the FP2:
Thanks but it just says that Fairphone got software support without Qualcomm, but not how.
If you do a bit of searching this forum you will find posts from Fairphone saying they just did it themselves with help from friends
Like Lineage is doing it too, for example. With the big difference, that Fairphone is doing the extra work to get certified by Google.
LineageOS is not providing firmware-level security patches. Older devices might get newer Android versions, but not the underlying vendor firmware. Are you telling me this is the same procedure with Fairphone? This poses a security risk.
Also Daniel Micay, dev of GrapheneOS pointed this out as well: https://twitter.com/DanielMicay/status/1444028533186117633
I think no one can currently say how it will work for the FP4. For the FP2 you’re right and there are no firmware-level security patches.
Thanks for the answer.
