with my old phone it was possible to listen to Whatsapp voicemails in private when I put the phones earpiece to my ear (like a normal phonecall). It doensn’t work with my FP2, is there anything I can do?

Generally it should work. Whatsapp may be the second or third app most users install. If this feature would not work on other FP2, surely many more users here would report about it. So i assume it works in general which makes it rather look like an issue with your setup or phone.
Please recheck/compare your whatsapp settings (also with another users phone [samsung etc. ] where this feature works).
Also recheck your own audio settings.
Does usual phoning works?
