🇬🇧 🇫🇷 🇩🇪 Hoping for an upgrade to Android 8 or 9 from OpenOS, or switching to Lineage without waiting any longer?

:uk: Since the FP3 was released with Android 9, and the FP2 is no longer sold, I have the feeling that we’ll never see a more advanced version for an FP2 than the current version of FP open os (based on Android 7).

Now, if I bought an FP2 two years ago, it’s not to buy an FP3 now, especially, if I understood correctly, that there is no open version for the FP3.

So, isn’t it time to consider a migration to Lineage, which is preparing a version of Android 10 (and there’s even an unofficial version on this forum that is already available to the competent people)?

My primary reason is that I really like the OSMand+ application, and that it’s currently working like crazy, sometimes to the point of crashing, whereas on an iphone with the latest system, it’s very fluid. Now, this application shows a noticeable acceleration from Android 8.

And my second reason is that you don’t have to stay too far behind in updates, and if there’s no FP open evolution, you might as well take advantage of the latest Android versions without waiting any longer (I find the ability to use the phone as a desktop computer appealing, since I’m hoping it’ll allow you to use some applications on a larger screen, and with the comfort of a keyboard).

:fr: hello,

I have LineageOS with OsmAnd+ on the Fairphone 2, and it works like a charm.
So, if you’re not content with Android 7, then at least there’s no harm in checking out LineageOS.

… yet. It may still come. Or the community might manage to port LineageOS.

My advice is to test Lineage OS by yourself (also for me works like a charm with OsmAnd~), but first make a TWRP backup of your existing OpenOS before, so you can go backwards if needed.

:uk: Hello,
That makes me two testimonials (100% of the answers, thank you very much  ) that advise me to try Lineage. Why not do it?
But I have some technical questions, so I’m going to open a new post about it.
