Help from "Fairphone Angel"

I was stuck without mobile data or 5G connection. Wi-Fi only.

The SIM card worked fine for 5G when I tested it on another 5G phone.
“Reset mobile network settings” and no changes.
“Return to Factory State” without results.
I tried everything I could think of to no avail.

I sent it to Technical Service and they returned it to me claiming that it worked fine.
It kept working poorly for me, without mobile data or a 5G connection.

I contacted Löic Alejandro “Fairphone Angel” in San Sebastián -Basque Country-

I left it for him and he returned it to me fixed.

I write this because I have realized that helping each other is part of the Concept that Fairphone users are proud of.
I am also writing to thank Löic for his help.

Some more feedback about how I solved it, in case it can help someone else.

The problem was that in the mobile connection configuration there was no APN configured, and a strange message like “This user does not have the rights to configure APN” or something like that. Even after factory reset. I don’t know why.

I have two SIMs. With one the APN was auto-configured. With the other, no.

So I manually configured an APN with the info from my FP3+. And it worked.

Then when I met with @Marciano we put his SIM and the APN was auto-configured. Maybe the fact that an APN was existent (the one I manually created) allowed the SIM to auto-configure, I don’t know :person_shrugging:

Anyway, the problem was that: no APN configured.

I completely agree with you – helping each other is often the best way.
After about a year, my FP5 had a problem with the additional memory card.
A long (and sometimes frustrating) email conversation didn’t get me anywhere. So I got in touch with a Fairphone Angel (Thorsten Voos, based in Bamberg, Bavaria), and that’s when things started moving. In the end, he replaced the faulty top unit, which Fairphone then delivered under warranty.
Since then, everything’s been fine!
