Have I destryoed my device? With locking

Okay, I have been using Fairphone 4 for a couple of years with Calyx OS.

After CalyyxOS discontnued, I flashed it with Fariphone 13 ROM. Continuing with Lineage OS.

I forgot to lock the bootloaader…. so I decided to do that today…. Of course, everything should get wiped. But did I also wipe my device down the toilet too?

I think I applied the lock command in the wrong place.
I can’t go past the fastboot.

fastboot flashing get_unlock_ability
(bootloader) get_unlock_ability: 0
OKAY [ 0.001s]
Finished. Total time: 0.001s

Welcome to the community :waving_hand:

If I understand you correctly, you locked to bootloader with Lineage OS installed on the phone, right?!

Lineage doesn’t support bootloader locking, and since you got this result back…

…I’m afraid you won’t be able to recover from that brick. Only contactsupport will be able to help you now :grimacing:

For what it’s worth, you applied the lock command in the right place, just with the wrong ROM, and without checking fastboot flashing get_unlock_ability before locking it.

The safe path if you want to lock is always a fresh install (because that resets get_unlock_ability), not booting into Android after installation, then check get_unlock_ability, and only if it returns 1 you can safely lock it.

Regarding costs, see these two recent bills from Cordon for unbricking of an FP :five: and an FP :four::

I see. I think I got seriously blinded by my software project and went with the wrong attitude when it comes to (non-PC) hardware stuff. :face_exhaling:

We’ve all been there, I just bricked a security key a few hours ago, which could totally have been prevented… :person_facepalming:

Thankfully the pricing for de-bricking the phone is somewhat reasonable, I just hope you get through customer support as quickly as possible :crossed_fingers:
