@Monica.Ciovica
Sorry for pinging you again.
Do you happen to have any information regarding this topic?
I will check and get back to you as soon as I know something
FP3 A.0101 is available with Android security update Octā19 and GMS package updated Octā19.
The security update is important.
The october update installes āYoutube Musicā as another useless bloatwareā¦ Thanks G$#gleā¦
For uninstalling via ADB ā¦ itās com.google.android.apps.youtube.music .
OTA link (if anybody is interested ) : https://android.googleapis.com/packages/ota-api/fairphone_fp3_fp3/a1b56846df6bb6c656a511eeae9f732f5b35fbf9.zip
Just got it: wow, real low Google. Not only do they not list it in the update notes, but itās truly bloatware because you canāt uninstall it. adb here I comeā¦
For anyone bothered by the YT Music app appearing with this update. The app is to replace Google Play Musicā¦ itās Google and they change things up every so often (check this if you want to know all the services killed off over the years!! https://killedbygoogle.com/ )
Info here: https://news.sky.com/story/youtube-music-app-to-replace-google-play-music-on-android-11823572
Donāt know, Iām super keen on using ADB .
It can be disabled
Can anyone provide some simple instructions on how to install the zip file?
or should I really just wait for my phone to tell me itās available?
Iāve tried adb reboot revocery
adb sideload ā¦
but I just get nothing
Iāve changed the filename to update.zip, moved it to home folder and restarted. Nothing there too.
It should be available via system updater.
Go to Settings > System. There you should find it under Extended Sytem or similar.
Simply tap the System Updater and let it search for the update.
The presence of the System Updater depends on one or two Google services. If you canāt find it, you have probably deactivated Google Play Services and / or Google Services Framework.
Temporaribly activate them and the Updater will show up.
After the Update you can deactivate both services again. Be sure to deactivate the āFind my deviceā function under Security first or one of the both mentioned services cannot be deactivated again ā¦
PS: VPN software can also prevent the update being found by the system updater if you have restricted Google Play Services or Google Services Framework. Just in case - try to temporarily suspend it if you have it running (eg. Netguard).
Iāve tried installing this via recovery, it getās verified correctly but then fails
Installing update...
E: Can't run /sbin/update_engine_sideload (No such file or dir)
E:Error in /sideload/package.zip (Status 1)
...
Installation aborted
no matter if i try to install it from sdcard or adb/usb
Yes, I got the 5 October 2019 security patch the day before yesterday (28/11/19). I didnāt have to do anything - it was pushed to me.
Same for me.
Got update a couple of days ago. Installation went ok and havenāt noticed any new issues.
Is anyone aware of a possibility to force triggering the OTA update?
I received the September security update in a timely manner, when the first reports were made here. Under the same conditions (Iām in the UK, usually connected to a VPN 24/7) I havenāt received the October security update yet (the one released by FP in late November) - and Iām already annoyed by that. Fairphone needs some time to integrate the Google patches into their OS - fine. But still being on September patches in December, thatās my previous phoneās experience all over againā¦
I tried various suggestions from the internet: clearing the Google Services Framework app cache, disabling the VPN for a while, rebooted multiple times, did the manual update search for about a billion timesā¦ It tells me my September patches are up to date, and that drives me nuts, because I know itās not the case.
There are not so many Fairphone 3ās that the rollout should take weeks. Iād even opt in for early testing if there was such a thing.
Rant over.
I didnāt ask support yet, wanted to look for possible reasons and solutions here first.
I tried manually installing the OTA zip file but experienced the same error as @nold.
Sorry, for being a smartass; but then this isnāt new for you and no need for ranting.
No, seriously, it might be a staged rollout, that takes a few days, to e.g. manage the bandwith-use of the download server.
Since the first post mentioning the availability of the update was 4 days ago, you might give it another week? Just a wild guess, of course, as I have no experience or special knowledge.
