Hardware upgrade existing models

Hi,

I own a FP5. I’ve always wondered: Have you considered extending the life of existing models by offering upgraded modules? For example, battery life of the FP5 isn’t great, I can imagine better battery tech might enable offering a battery with higher capacity. Or another example: Cameras get better, wouldn’t it be nice to be able to upgrade just the camera module.

I see the FP6 is a big upgrade compared to the FP5, but why can’t FP5 users also upgrade their existing phone?

All those topics have been discussed a few times already. Use the search to find more about that. Quick summary:
Battery: FP2 had a slight battery update, but staying at the same physical size you cannot expect wonders.
Cameras: Nowadays, picture sensors are good enough to basically all enable decent photos. The software is the bigger item here. FP6 for instance may have a worse camera than FP5 when purely looking at some of the numbers. Still it is expected to be slightly better than FP5 with FP5 already being at a quite good level.
Overall: New components come with new pin outs, sizes, voltages. Camera updates have been done in the past (FP2 and FP3 both had better cameras in the respective later versions) but as mentioned above, today it’s more about the software. I’d like to see things like batteries to be compatible among phone generations, but apart from that: As long as the core module has such a huge impact on the environment, it doesn’t make much sense to replace this and keep other parts. Especially since you want to have the maximum battery power which requires space. That is only possible if the core module is as compact as possible, so you cannot allow to leave space for any future developments.

Hi Martin,

Thanks! I understand the viewpoints. I had a hard time finding relevant posts in the forum, hence I asked. Always a challenge to figure out what keywords to use in a search
Anyways, I’m happy with the FP5, but a bit more battery capacity would be nice!
