Google Play dienste /Gloogle play service for FP3 up to day?

Dear all,

For an app (finance app) I need the Google play service app up to day. After the last Fairphone update I ditd an update of google play service through aurora store. Theoretically it worked, but that finance app says allways google play-service is not enabled. How can I fix this?

Thank you for your help

If you have no Google account, you can still update pre-installed Google apps through the Play Store. Launch the Play Store and tap the three small dots in the top right corner. There should be an “Updates” option.

This all sounds a bit like you made the switch to /e/OS.
Can you confirm?

If you indeed are using /e/OS,

you can’t update Google Play Services via Aurora store. What Aurora Store detects as Play Services is the Google replacement component microG included in /e/OS, posing as Play Services to Apps so that they think Google services are present.

microG gets updated when /e/OS gets updated. There’s a non-zero chance compatibility with your App might be restored then.

Alternatively you can search the /e/OS forum for possible steps to take with your particular finance App (which one?), perhaps some other user(s) already shared something helpful … or a confirmation that it simply doesn’t work, which is also a possibility … https://community.e.foundation

Thanks.
Exactly, I have no google account and almost all Google apps are not activaded. An exception is the play service app.
I means I have first to activate the Play Store app to look for the updates, right?
Interestengly I saw the three dots on the Play Service app. When I press it, appears the option “UNinstall all updates”. Strange…

Thanks for answer.
No, no. I don’t use /e/OS.

I update Google Play Services this way (FP3 defaulf OS): Settings → About phone → Android Version → Update Google Play (translation may vary)

But I’m logged into a Google account, so I don’t know it’s the same for you…

It isnt when you dont use a Google account and I think those are two different things as far as I know:thinking:

However I assume updating the Play Services App via Aurora or Play Store should not make a difference.

Probably the error message is just wrong?

O brigada mais nao tenho comta do google

I discovered something comparing my phone with Mixigodos pics.
The google System update has the date 1° november 2025 (?!). I don’t understand this. I checked many options in my phone and still don’t understand. Any suggestions?

I’m in touch with the support of that finace app. They told me to try in another Android phone if this not work they would look for a solution.
Arg…now look for an android phone :expressionless_face:

Before long your finance App will or should require a halfway current Android security patch level, and you are not getting any more Android security updates for Fairphone’s OS on FP3 … Software Update: FP3.6.A.040.4 📲 (LAST UPDATE)

So, even if you solve the Google patch level issue now, and it might suffice to get the App working again now, there will still be trouble up ahead. Just keep it in mind.

On my Fairphone 5 I have another option to update google.
Perhaps it’s on your Fairphone 3 as well. (My Fairphone 3 is on /e/.)

Go to the app Settings
Go to Security and privacy
Go to System and updates
Go to Google Play system update and see if you can update.

As mentioned by @AnotherElk if this works, it will be only a temporarily solution.

Thanks Lidwien.
Do you mean the option “Google Play Protect”?

Mmm… It seems I’ll have to talk with the finance app service.

No. In my Fairphone 5 I have the option Google Play system update in the Security and privacy section of Settings.

Your screenshot shows the rather old Google Play update from November 2025.
But did you actually follow the flow Mixidoo showed, i.e. tapping on the date and then actively searching for an update on the next screen?

Thats not working without a Google Account added. And Google Play Services is not the same as Google Play System update. Lidwiens was neither works without Google Account while using FPOS

That is the point as @yvmuell tells. I don’t have an google account.
I’ remenber yeaaaaars ago I opened something like an google account to use the googe sheets, etc. I’ll try with that.

All this stuff remind me every time what google wants to do with android. Annoying

Asking in Github they recommended me to try whith the combination of the apps Obtainium & Shizuku. It seems for me (absolut non expert) a bit challenging.

Does anyone use Shizuku? How do you install it? Any suggestions for a good (EASY) tutorial?
