Hello all,
I have a Fairphone 4, with the latest update to Android 15, and the security update from 5th January. Lately, whenever I use my phone with the phone app, and put it on speakerphone, the sound at the other end becomes fuzzy and distorted. It seems to get worse as the call continues. This seems to be a software problem related to the phone app, as when I use the voice calling option on WhatsApp and use speakerphone, there is no problem the other end. I have tried turning of VoLTE calling, and Wi-Fi calling, but this makes no difference. Is this a problem with the latest update, or is there some problem with my phone? Thanks in advance for any help or advice.
I asked this before, but maybe it got posted in the wrong place, as I got no reply. When I call using my FP4 with the Google Phone app, if I use speakerphone, the sound is muffled and often inaudible at the other end. I think this is a software problem with Android 15 (which is completely up to date on my phone). On Whatsapp the sound at the other end is fine, so it seems to be a software problem rather than hardware. I even attached an external bluetooth mic, but the fuzziness persisted. Has anyone else had this, and is there a solution, apart from only using whatsapp?
Hello,
I’ve merged your repeat question back to the first time of asking, sorry you didn’t get any reply before.
You might want to read around a bit on this subject (you’re certainly not the only person to encounter the problem). Try doing a search such as this.
If this is a software problem then only Fairphone can fix it, unless you move to a different OS ROM such as /e/. If you stay with the stock OS then you’ll need to contact official FP support. Do thorough checks before moving to another OS, to make sure the problem will be solved as you hope.
Lastly, an effective work-around might be to use a headset rather than the loudspeaker. That way you get handsfree privacy and don’t run the risk of bothering people nearby. But that won’t let others listen to the conversation, it all depends on your needs.
