FP6 - Unsure why it isn't working after a fall

Hello! Sorry if I’m using this forum wrong, this is my first time here.

So, my Fairphone fell about 2 metres and now it wont turn on at all.
I am sure of this because my computer can’t recognise a USB device is connected when I connected it to my PC, and when I hold the power button nothing happens, it doesn’t even vibrate.
Externally, it is perfectly fine aside from a scratch, but internally I couldn’t find anything wrong.
Any tips on what damage to look for inside? What part could’ve stopped working?
Or should I send it to some repair shop? I have thought about it, but I have no idea how much experience my local repair shops have with Fairphones so I’m a little afraid to give them my device.

Thanks in advance!

Hello
I think the easiest thing to check might be the battery screws and the connector.

I am just a bit anxious cause we had two reports on the forum when that did not work out well,

But generally speaking, users should be able to swap their batteries,

and here you may find the manual

Thanks for replying.

Battery seems fine, waiting for a new one to be delivered seems like too much of a hassle when it doesn’t even seem like a problem.
Also, how would a battery problem also affect it powering on via USB?
And in this case, the phone doesn’t boot at all, compared to the forum post you linked.

Also also, just to prepare for the worst-case scenario, does Fairphone have some way to recover data on dead phones?

Hi,
what I meant was checking whether the battery is properly connected, all screws and connectors are in place. I didn’t advise purchasing a new one. To the best of my knowledge, it is not possible to power a phone without a battery.

Depending on where you are based there might be some local Angels to try and swap some of the parts.

I think FP has the policy of deleting all user’s data and reinstalling the system.

Hello,
sorry about the confusion. The battery is indeed screwed on correct and the connectors are in place. I am pretty sure it’s not the problem, but I don’t know how to test if the battery is even providing power.

There’s no Angels in Croatia, nor do I know any people with Fairphones.

Also, to be able to rule out parts easier, what can a Fairphone 6 function without? Can it still boot without good cameras, a display, speaker, USB port, etc.?

Hi
Thanks for checking.

I think FP6 should work without some modules you mentioned, but if yours does not react at all already, I am not sure how much that could help.

I run a quick check via the self-repair portal and the solution I arrived at was to request a repair.

Unfortunately, there are no Angels in Croatia, I think the closest one is in Triest.

I don’t think I will be able to help you any further, perhaps someone else would have any other ideas.
