FP6: Unregistered fingerprint can unlock phone

I can unlock my Fairphone 6 with an unregistered fingerprint. I registered my right index finger and thumb, but I noticed that I can reliably unlock the phone with my left middle finger, which is not registered. Sometimes the phones says that the fingerprint is not recognized when I use my left finger, but it often just unlocks.

I couldn’t find a similar report for my problem for the Fairphone 6, so I made a new topic, but maybe there is already a similar report?

I am not sure if this is normal or not, but I’ve never experienced this with another phone before.

Really important to keep in mind: due to having Vodafone DE, I am still on the June 5, 2025 security update (OS Build version: FP6 QREL 15 105.0), so maybe this has already been fixed in an update that I can’t get, but I couldn’t find anything by googling.

Maybe you can go to the fingerprint settings and check as which fingernis is being recognised (when you press it highlights the one). Then erase it and add it again using multiple points of your finger. I guess a bad quality read could bring this issue.

If it persists I’d contact support for a bad module.

Where in the settings can I find that? I tried looking in the fingerprint settings but couldn’t find that, and didn’t find anything by searching

Security and privacy/Device unlock/Fingerprint and Face Unlock/Fingerprint

when touching the fingerprint scanner with all your fingerprints opened, the one used gets highlighted

Thanks a lot, I found it!!

I had a long walk today without hand gloves and the weather today was extremely dry, so my hands have gotten completely dry and chapped. I am having trouble unlocking the phone with my registered fingers since I came back home, so I will have to test this when my hands recover

Update:
my hands are better today thanks to some heavy duty moisturizer

I tested it this morning and the phone was recognizing my left middle finger as my right thumb, which is really strange. I will delete the fingerprint that was being highlighted (thumb), test for a while without it to see if my middle-finger can still unlock the phone, then recreate thumb finger print and test again
