Except of course I fell for the deceptive marketing lies and bought a device that is essentially trash for me…
Sue them
.
I luckily didn’t have to. They accepted my refund request. And I can only suggest everyone who has been mislead like myself to do the same.
The majority of all people doesn’t buy a fairphone
fairphone always had a more nerdy community and hopefully it will stay that way. I know at least 5 people personally (in real life) in my friend group who would have instantly renewed there older model with version 6 if there weren’t those 2 show stoppers. Me included…
So from 6 people there is only one person who commented on this. Of course its only anecdotally but on basis of this small sample size I’m at least cautious to name any majority without valid data to back it up.
I hope fairphone will remember its core community with a revision model, premium model or the next version. ![]()
Edit: i don’t comment on the repeated (imho misleading) advise to buy a fairphone 5. That’s a different discussion…
that is not what I see and what I call confirmation bias.
I see many “normal” user that just consider the sustainable factor (thats where I’m as well coming from) as reason to buy a Fairphone.
For me the community is as mixed as for all other brands. Some are nerds and some of those care about the USB port, some are privacy focused and still dont want to have to think about flashing a ROM, some are security focused. For me the vast majority is just a normal phone user like my mom or friends that like the sustainability factor.
Either way, we dont see the world as it is, we see it as we are and only actual stats/numbers would proof any reality and we dont have them.
Fairphone should have this knowledge. I mean, I suspect they surely surveyed their target group/market before going into development and making those design decisions.
Maybe they could share this data with us?
I really can’t understand this choice.
Since the primary goal is to have a tool that lasts as long as possible, using old technology is not going to achieve that result.
Luckily, I didn’t buy an FP6, because I plan to use the “desktop mode.”

Hi All,
I tried to connect a monitor to my new Fairphone 6 via USB-C to HDMI. But I discovered the fairphone does not have this ability. Dove a bit deeper, and discovered the Fairphone 6 only has USB 2.0 support. I am very surprised, as the Fairphone 5 and even the Fairphone 4 had USB 3.0 support + Displayport support over USB.
Does anyone know why they decided to go for this sudden downgrade?
Apparently to get the price down a bit and “ no one uses it anyways” … that’s the current assumptions on this design decision. If there was an official statement on this and someone knows it, please share ![]()
There was. If you read above a bit you will find it
Today I was again reminded about how much I miss this feature when I had to edit some personal documents at work and had to carry my laptop for this. So I decided to make a forum account just to make my voice heard. I would not have got FP6 if I knew beforehand. Please consider not doing this for the next model!
Just to whoever decided this:
Nope, not a good idea. Without USB3 I will certainly skip FP6.
In other words: You failed.
Oh, and best wishes to the “majority not even noticing any difference” when they squeeze 200GB through USB2 because they didnt want to afford that much for a cloud.
PS: Looking forward to the price spiraling down when people realize it is as desirable as a biohazard waste bin.
/remind me 2026-12 to get out my popcorn machine
I’m surprised this is still not flagged, my jokes get flagged here for less sometimes ![]()
Can imagine someone does realize the mistake: USB2 is neither technically a good choice in 2025 nor does it represent Fairphone’s own values (as in future proof, how can anyone go lower?).
Still, I am very surprised: You are a “Fairphone Angel” and yet your “jokes” do not get accepted?
I have to state that this very forum is very open-minded and I have never experienced any flagging (let alone censoring). Never! And this is actually yet another reason to love it ![]()
Yes, big booo for this decision. A lot of people won’t buy this and it’s sad because “Nerds” who needs USB3 and desktop mode are your biggest advocate. For other people you are more a “Gift” company:
”Look, i gifted you a FairPhone wich is fair to human and environment.” But then the end user forget about it, for most users this an overpriced phone like others. If I want to be kind to the environment I’ll buy a second hand phone.
Just came to say the missing USB3/display port/desktop mode is a deal breaker for me too and a reason I cannot buy Fairphone 6.
Since less then year old Motorola Razr from my employer broke in November (yes, it has 3 screens now
of course), I was saying that on January I will buy some good phone myself.
I liked Fairphone 6 from the moment it came out. Love the design and modularity. Seem to be made with some brain usage. Then I saw info there is no support for external display. Was too thinking this has to be some mistake in 2025+. But found details and this discussion.
It is really bad choice. Like, for last 15 (maybe more) years, all my “phones“ has been just computers with calling as additional function. Had Palm Treos, Windows Mobile things, and after that mostly Android. Phone functionality was always just one of many functions. For new device I had in mind usage instead laptop (I am curious mainly when phone will be supported by PostmarketOS and Ubuntu Touch) in years to come. Because of this one bad choice, it cannot be used like that.
I have an FP6, and only just found out about the fact that it cannot do Desktop mode. I was using this all the time with my FP4.
My entire home setup is centered around USB-HDMI routing (primarily via Steam Deck). I’ll keep the FP6 going as long as I can, but this is frankly an embarrassing lack in a modern device. If there is another time to by a Fairphone, I will be scrutinizing the feature set much more closely. Had I done this beforehand, I would have looked for an alternative.
And this is REALLY disappointing, because I want to support Fairphone in their mission, but I just can’t recommend this device anymore. ![]()
Can’t belive that right now i’m not developing on a FP6 but have to wait years to come.
