FP4 no longer receiving texts (SMS messages)

For the past 5 days my Fairphone 4 has stopped receiving text (SMS) messages. It sends them as usual. This is the first time I’ve had this problem in 4 years.

I’ve tried restarting and removing/replacing the SIM card, without success. Can anyone help?

I have the same problem. Currently I am standing outside a hotel looking at a notice that says they texted the door code to me :frowning: I have had issues trying to buy online too

How old are your SIMcards?

I understand it might be a challenge for you now @fkc (sorry to hear about the hotel hassle!) But perhaps you could try another SIM or eSIM?

Hi @meaghan, thanks for replying. And commiserations to @fkc . My SIM card must be at least 4 years old, but since all the other services are working OK, is it possible that the SIM card is failing

Was trying to ask how likely it is for a SIM to fail partially (i.e. receiving texts, in this case)? It seems more likely that it would fail for all services, but perhaps partial failure is a common problem? I guess I’m trying to gauge if it is worth contacting my mobile service provider for a replacement SIM.

The general wisdom is not to put too much trust into SIMs that are older than two years. Also FP supports asks to test the connection on cards below this threshold.

But my SIMcard is three years old and running fine.

I don’t have any further expertise, and unfortunately internal testing on FP4 is I believe still broken.

If you have an easy option to test with a different SIM, I would suggest that.

Thanks @Meaghan for that helpful extra info. I’ll look into trying another SIM.
