and in best case you are not at all affected, as several others…
Oh bork, it’s still on Android 13, I only got the security update (of Nov 5th) on my FP4 (Proximus, Belgium).
Exactly, battery optimisation by forcing me to leave the screen on the entire time I’m listening to something, unable to check email or respond to messages. Similar to you, the setting bought me a few minutes, but it still shuts it off in the end.
I want to confirm that I see the very same issue on my FP4 as well. Can lead to situations where you cannot proceed at all, for instance when requiring a two factor authentication while login in somewhere in the browser. I also have the feeling that the keyboard is affected by the same issue (is it technically an app as well?). My keyboard started to randomly close esp when using it in certain larger apps like the browser.
Same is true for the launcher. I had to switch back to the simple most launcher otherwise when pressing the home button the launcher would behave like at boot and take seconds to get responsive and enumerate all apps on the screens.
Very frustrating…
Same thing here - Apps getting closed all the time, although they are exempt from battery optimization. This includes even stuff like the podcast app being killed while playing, just because a notification activates a different app. Launcher response also very slow, did not make the connection until now however.
Same here. My phone has become unusable. I’m scared to switch apps. How hard can it be to verify an email address? With my FP4 and Android 15, it’s impossible. Now, I carry a second phone just in case I need to do something simultaneously…
A post was merged into an existing topic: FP5: Android 15 killing background apps more aggressively
Same problem here. Very annoying that apps are killed while there is plenty of available memory!
FP5 is also suffering this issue. This is reported for months now. Are we forced to buy the newest FP6? Or do they want us to leave the FP community and buy another brand …
I have the same problem with my FP4, its very difficult with payments or trying to copy things from one app to the other. I really hope a patch will come soon, because I would be really anxious travelling with this phone at the moment.
After receiving a brand new FP4, it seems to me that Android OS kills apps a bit less aggressively.
To be noted that I couldn’t restore from my old FP4 because it has recently been bricked by an OS update, so I had to do a clean install of all the (hundreds) of apps I had previously installed.
This is to say that a factory reset of the phone could help a bit in some cases.
However the problem it’s clearly still there, it’s a bug of the OS and Fairphone must fix it.
This is ridiculous: sometimes I take a picture and the OS kills the app before the photo is even saved. I have lost a few pictures like this…
It really feels like sadomasochism to keep using this phone. Is there another way to raise this issue with Fairphone?
I also suffer from this behavior because I frequently see ‘empty’ photos in my gallery… It is very anoying
Same issues with my FP4 (FP4.QREL.15.14.3). An app switch kills immediately the previous app. 2fa apps are mostly not usable anymore. Pictures with 0 bytes und audio apps are randomly killed after a few minutes. The issue is there for months, but no real communication from the fairphone company. Android 13 was also smoother than android 15. The FP4 hardware is ok in 2026, but the software keep going worse.
Unfortunately, this did not improve much - if anything - for me.
Still no solution yet zzz.
Last night I only had Spotify open to play sleep music. Half way through, it got killed in the middle of the night.
I made sure every other app was closed.
This is insanity. Poor quality control /testing of software updates.
Its been 3 months comon…
Yes, but they currently have 3 phone models (FP4, FP5, FP6), and each has its own A15 problems (just check the forum thread titles). This would put a strain even on a company with a more solid developer team. And among those phones FP4 is the oldest and probably most complicated (since technically it wasn’t supposed to get A15) case.
On the other hand, since FP5 and FP6 users also complain about the new A15 instantly killing their background apps, one can hope that if Fairphone fixes that issue for one phone, they can fix it easily for the other two too. Time will tell (“time” being the operative word here, you definitely don’t want another rushed update, do you…).
I think we’d all be collectively happier if we got a status update on what they’ve found so far.
Do they think it’s fixable?
Or is it time to buy a new phone?
All we got in the past 3 months is an AI generated post by the CM..
Well, that is actually the general leitmotif of all Fairphone interactions (and the reason of ever-rising frustration and disappointment). ![]()
Somebody should print t-shirts with that phrase… ![]()
In my case this has severely improved my situation, at least in the last 24 hours.
I rebooted the phone after setting that option (it made sense to me, since that should apply to the entire operating system I guess), and now the phone seems much more reactive (it didn’t before rebooting).
Also, I guess this has to be related, I also have no limit on the number of background processes.
