FP3 A13 incoming calls not ringing, contact phone number formats changed, contacts not recognised on 4G

Hi folks,
Today I noticed that incoming WhatsApp messages were silent. I checked my contact settings and Contacts offered to merge duplicate entries. So I merged them, only to find that many of the number formats had been changed to one that isn’t a UK format.
I re-entered my landline details to what they had been for the last five years and rang my FP3 (O2) from my landline (Vodafone). No ringing.
I checked the volume, which was set to maximum. I tapped the three dots to see if I could get any useful info. The ‘Sound and vibration’ settings showed that the ‘Ring and notification volume’ was off. (I didn’t know how to do this prior to tapping the three dots so I doubt I could have turned it off by accident.)
I set it back on and rang my FP3 from the landline again. It rang. However it rang with the default ringtone and not my contact ringtone.
I checked the Phone app and found that the calls I made after turning the volume back on were all “Unknown”, whereas the call I made when the volume was off showed up with the correct caller details (as did the three other noiseless calls I received today).
I’d noticed a similar thread relating to 4G so I switched 4G Calling off and called again. Caller recognised. I turned it back on again. Caller still recognised so I suspect it was something to do with one or both of the networks.
As to Contacts messing things up, I suspect it’s typical Google “It’s been right long enough, let’s change it.” again. Who knows what the impending Android update will bring?
I think I might be de-Googling sooner than I had anticipated.

Android 14 and 15 are available in the Custom ROM realm, though.

Thanks AnotherElk,

I was thinking of Software update: FP3 A.13 MR10/6.A.031.7 as per Software update: FP3 A.13 MR10/6.A.031.7.
My FP3 is still on 6.A.031.5. (If I go into Settings, System it tells me there’s an update available but it hasn’t popped up a notification about it. I’ll put that down to the network.)
Anyway, now I’ve seen it’s available I’ll install it.
(I’ll get round to de-Googling when I have time to read all the stuff I need to read before I do it - and enough time to fix it should it go wrong.)
