FP2 new USB-C bottom module new batch [SORRY, ordering closed]

Hi, thank you amoun.
I am indeed new to the community. I have been going through two used bottom modules quite quickly, so I thought I’d give these a shot. What kind of people is this thread for?
If my order is presumptous, I am of course willing to take it back.
What kind of repair would you suggest instead? Use Fairphone’s service to send in my device? Or try repairing the bottom module myself?

This is for people who want to get a hold of a replacement part, even though FP ran out of them and are willing to put in some work (You need to assemble parts yourself, but it is doable).

Repair is always much better than recycling, so I suggest repairing your module or possibly waiting till the end and maybe getting a module that is left over from the preorders.

There’s nothing to take back, i was saying it’s presumptuous to think Leo will want to make another batch.

Same for me. My microfone now works again, that has been really annoying the last weeks and made me think about buying a new phone. Putting in the loudspeaker and vibrator was a bit of a challenge as there are different layers of gum or foil of which I was not sure what to leave and what to take with. In the end I have taken all layers.
With the replacement in place for an hour or so I can say that charging the phone works. Data transfer only if the plug is in one direction. As I had read about this in the thread that is no problem and the same situation as with the standard module. With the grey backcasing the phone look like a maker thing which is in a way quite nice.
I’m happy that the repair was possible and I’m astonished about this quality work from the community. Thank you!

Hey

Are there any available? If so, i’d like 1 bottom module and 1 case please

Thanks

Yes, I know it was barbaric, but I wanted a phone!
Some issues developed with the case: the phone dropped a few times and the case got brittle. That wsa in te context, that the loudspeaker was very low in volume and sometimes made scratchy sounds. I glued the case, and while letting it dry I also resorted to the old case. Just carved out the slot for the USB-C with a cutter, which was quite easy to do. So the old case presses the loudspeaker better into its bed, and now the sound is as good as it used to be. But I do admire the good fit of the new cases.

29 shipments going out tomorrow, it took me a while but now I am so far. If you have ordered one and have no or just one case and are in the EU, check your mailbox, it may arrive this week (but not everyone is served with this batch)

Just received one in France. Thanks!

I’ve installed it, and sound, vibrator, and microphone all work, but not power charging. Is there a way I can test the module to see where the issue is?

Try flipping the connector, due to a PCB defect that wasn’t my fault, charging only works in one orientation.

It’s actually not a question of direction… If I plug something to my computer (directly or through a hub), there is no charging. But directly plugging to a powered hub (Anker ones) work. I tried both directions with the computer.

Does data transfer to the computer work? What kind of cable are you using?

When plugged to the computer or the hub (usb-c to usb-c), I cannot turn on tethering on usb, so I think the usb connection is not recognized.

Try a USB-C to A cable, keep in mind that this module of course only support usb2 electrically

Thank you for the suggestion. USB-C to A works for charging (and even USB-C (computer) to A adapter followed by USB-A cable to USB-C (phone) works). The only think that does not work is data transfer, independently of the orientation.

Try data transfer with an USB a to c cable, to a usb A port. It is also possible that you have damaged the module during assembly

Unfortunately I do not have a USB-A port on this computer (it’s an XPS-13), so I have to go through a hub or adapter.

I have good news, it seems it was an issue with the cable. I tried another cable and I can do USB tethering. Sorry for all the noise, and thanks again for the support.

I have prepared new cases to be shipped with the modules, this time a custom request and some translucent blue cases. What do you think? Would you buy some or those, if yes just PM me and I will write that down in the list last minute before processing your order.
