Ok, I have a fix. Flashing
boot.img from FPOS-GMS 1.2.8 re-enables the charging animation.
boot partition contains the kernel and some other things, like the charging animation, so I don't think there's any Google on it. FPOS-OS kernel should have the same blobs that FPOS-GMS kernel. My opinion is that it is safe to flash
boot.img. TWRP recovery and Android system still working as expected for me.
- Download flashable images of Fairphone OS GMS 1.2.8.
- Unzip it.
- Reboot your phone to
fastboot mode (running
adb reboot bootloader from a terminal or booting up pressing Volume down and Power simultaneously).
fastboot flash boot boot.img from a terminal. In GNU/Linux you may need to prepend
sudo or add the
udev permission mentioned here.
fastboot reboot to boot the system.
In case something goes wrong, you can re-flash FPOS-OS
boot.img repeating the above steps with the ZIP provided here.
