I recently bought a FP6 running Murena EOS. I have had problems from day one with intermittently not receiving inbound calls and sending/receiving SMS. People tell me that they get directed straight to voicemail - seems to happen with 80% of calls. I get SMS notices of the missed calls although often these SMS messages arrive hours later, as do most SMS messages. I was wondering if anyone has any advice.
I have tried:
Restarting the phone
Resetting APN settings
Checked in various areas to rule out signal issues
Reseated the SIM card
Sometimes if I bounce connectivity completely by enabling/disabling Aeroplane mode, I will trigger a flood of delayed SMS.
Outbound calls so far have never failed.
Wifi messaging and calling seems to be fine.
I am at a loss for anything else to try apart from contacting official FP support.
If I remove my SIM and put it in my previous phone it works consistently - for now I have had to revert to useing my old phone as I cannot afford to miss calls
EOS version is up to date 3.6
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Edit - to add: Three mobile UK is my provider, they have found no issues and been unable to suggest anything that has fixed it thus far - they are pointing to the fact that the sim works in another phone, which is hard to debate at this point
From your description I would say that the problem lies with the network operator and quite possibly also with FP/Murena. They all have to work together. It looks like the mobile service connection is not getting properly advertised, so that SMS cannot be routed, and calls get diverted to voicemail. Basically the network doesn’t “know you’re connected” and so can’t send you stuff.
Three UK’s argument that the SIM “works in another phone” is unsurprising but I’d say not valid. Every network / phone model / OS version combination is potentially different.
If you can find a location where everything works all the time (apart from when using Wi-Fi Calling), that might help them track down the problem. I’ve seen you considered signal problems.
Since you’re using /e/OS I think you might get more ideas and shared experience over in the Murena forum.
In regards to the SIM card - whilst Three did argue that it works in another phone, I have spare SIMs which Three send out in the hopes of expanding their customer base.
So I took a spare never before used SIM and whereas the original SIM was now showing an exclamation mark over the signal bars and an “Emergency calls only” warning in the FP6, the spare sim immediately picked up 4G and claimed to have normal calling capability.
When I pointed this out to Three they suggested I get my number transferred to a new SIM.
I have done that and unfortunately the issue remains with a new SIM - calls and SMS are unreliable inbound.
I engaged FP Support on Friday, but I’m not expecting any response over the weekend.
I’ll update if/when I ever get to the bottom of this.
Thanks for the suggestion re:Murena support - I suspect I’ll have to look in that direction
It makes me wonder if the other SIM was also from Three.
If so, is the possible to check both accounts at the website from Three is there is any difference between the settings of the 2 accounts?
The exclamation mark means you dont have mobile data.
So with the test SIM did you perform any actual calls or did you sent any SMS?
Has your account with 3 VoLTE enabled? Whats the difference or your contract compared to the test SIM? So you did keep the Test SIM and the activated it for your account or sent you another New SIM? I really think there is something different with your contract compared to the test SIM and in general Three is not reliably working with FPs, when I see some reports here in the forum
I can also confirm same issue here with same network (Three UK) , it happened to me few times, my sim card was recently (couple months ago) replaced as I had esim before. Problem arose when I started using this sin with my recently purchased fairphone 6. Before I was using the same card in my moto RAZR 50 ultra - which unfortunately lost main folding screen and replacement was too expensive - and my pixel 6 - both of which never experienced issues with phone calls and texts.
