I couldn’t find an existing topic about this, so sorry if it was already discussed.
My Fairphone 5 is getting close to three years old, and I’m wondering how fast the battery is ageing and losing capacity.
I’ve never been very happy with the battery life.
Would replacing the battery early make a noticeable difference?
I’m asking because I’m planning a longer trip to a more off‑grid location, and I want to know if it makes sense to replace the battery before I go.
Since Fairphone doesn’t offer an external battery charger, I’m not too keen on carrying two batteries and swapping them when one is empty. That would also mean the old battery ends up unused, which would be a bit sad if the new one doesn’t perform that much better.
Isn’t that the use case for apps like AccuBattery which can - after a few charging cycles - tell you the state of your battery? Depending on how much it has aged so far you’ll know what to expect from a new one.
Having written that I have the impression that after three years my battery is not as good as on day one anymore, but I was too lazy to check the current state. But at the moment I still have the option to switch to charging to 100% to get through the day…
Usually batteries start loosing capacity after three years, but it might depend on how you used and loaded your phone. So it is hard to give a gereral recommendation. I would rather use a small power bank which might be useful even if your battery has full capacity, but on some days that is not enough after heavy usage.
