File picker not linked

on a new Fairphone 6 I try to restore the Signal backup. This fails directly after “select your backup folder”. (returned to home screen, signal still runs in back ground). Expected behaviur: file selection dialog appears.

I see a similar issue when another app suggest to select a folder. Then the error msg is: “The system file picker is missing or disabled”.

This issue is similar to (but no solution given; Files by Marc does not solve the issue)

any suggestions welcome!

Does it help to install a file manager app? For example GitHub - FossifyOrg/File-Manager: Easy app for managing your files without ads, respecting your privacy & security · GitHub (available on F-Droid or Google Play, no ads)

Not sure if it solves your particular problem but I thought it was worth mentioning.

thanks, I have 3 apps installed (Amaze, Ggoogle Files, Simpletools Filemanager) and installed the ‘Files by Marc’ app after I encountered the issue. None is linked to the function of file / folder selection.

How did you set up the phone, did you migrate settings from an old phone?

No migration (only manually for Whatsapp and trying Signal.)

I have to mention: it is a company managed phone (via MS intune).

Maybe this is the issue, then? Possibly the File Picker is blocked by their configuration? I think usually it’s a built-in feature that you don’t need to install any extra apps for.

Give Google Search a try for “The system file picker is missing or disabled”. There are some results and hints on AI search.

For Signal I used “Transfer account” with Bluetooth and WiFi, if you have your old smartphone, which worked well.

I’m with @mde that the company set-up is causing this, I would check with IT
