Fairphone Open 17.06.4 (Android 6.0) release

Turn the volume down until it’s totally down works for me.

Installed the ZIP and Open GApps via TWRP on encrypted phone. Works fine as far as I can see :+1:

I know this, but it is not as elegant as before

Using the Fairphone updater my update fails in TWRP with error in the zip.file.
Then I tried downloading through the updater but I didn’t restart.
I copied the fp_update_.zip to the sd-card.
Reboot in TWRP and try to install the file on the sd-card.
I get:
system partition has unexpected contents after OTA update
E: Error executing updater binary in sip '/external_sd/fp_update_.zip
Then I use the ‘wipe function’ Factory Reset wipes Data, Cache and Dalvik (not including internal storage).
And again try to install fp_update_.zip
Yes, succeeded.
FAIRPHONE Change is in your hands.
Luckely I made a backup before starting all this. Also made an backup of my sd-card on the pc.
The latter because I need to format my sd-card to use it in Android 6.

Installation via Updater was without problems (encrypted phone with xposed framework).
However, the phone hung several times until I managed to de-install xposed downloader, xposed installer and xprivacy. Basically, I had to reboot after every de-install.
After this, I still had to re-install several Apps. Without this they produced “Package installer stopped” when opening them in Settings->Apps.
Now, everything seems to be ok.

Seems weird to me, because there was a critical bug on the beta that wasn’t solved there. I’m not sure if this update is another leak… Be cautious and backup from TWRP before update! :warning:

Anyone suffering UI freezing and cyclics reboots when unlocking for the first time? Calling @tukss and @lklaus here, because they had them too in beta releases

Edit: Well, it has it’s own page at the Fairphone Open Source portal, so maybe this is not a leak after all…

https://code.fairphone.com/contentx/2017-06-15_fairphone-open-17.06_release.html

Yes, I have those UI freezings (once) and cyclic reboots (a dozen) since a flawless update with flashing the OTA, OpenGAPPS and xposed in TWRP. So… this was in the beta? fml…

Could it be that you used the wrong version of xposed? Android 6.0 requires the framework SDK23 as opposed to SDK22 for 5.1 - it’s a long shot I know, but just checking

Yes, I had the wrong version (not such a long shot )- leftover from before the upgrade. The problem was to get rid of it, but now - as I said - things are looking good. If I’d thought to check, I would have uninstalled xposed before the upgrade.

Update: installation went quick and without any problems. After some minor snags (half of my contacts were lost, but I could restore them from a backup on my sd-card) now everything works fine for me (and my Fairphone, of course🙂). We had to wait for some time, but it was worth it, after all… Great job, Fairphone team, thank you!

Installed, updated and… boom. Hang and reboot before letting me unlock the screen. #thiswasalreadyreported :expressionless:

2 posts were split to a new topic: Can’t get Davdroid + posteo working on Open OS 17.06.4

Same problem here. How do I downgrade again?

Can’t even get into recovery anymore - grrr!

Do you have a backup? Restoring a backup from TWRP should be enough.

If you didn’t do a backup, you need to summor your best luck. Downgrading data between Android versions is not supported, but we can try and I hope it works for you:

  • Download Fairphone Open 17.04 flashable ZIP
  • Boot into TWRP (#dic:recoverymode)
  • Connect your phone to your computer and copy the downloaded ZIP linked above
  • Wipe (Advanced Wipe) Dalvik Cache, System, and Cache
    • WARNING: keep Data, Internal Storage and Micro SDcard
  • Install the downloaded ZIP
  • (if you had Xposed or mods, install them, because not doing that could cause that your phone don’t boot at all)
  • Reboot and cross your fingers. Seriously, do it.

Upgrading the Android system can refactor some internal data, so restoring the former system could break in a lot of different manners.

You wasn’t supposed to do a backup because this is an official upgrade and it should have been properly tested. Shame on you, Fairphone.

I’m a beta tester and I feel my time testing FP Open 6 --and having this exact same bug– was wasted. I don’t test to early-adopt, I test to avoid this kind of things. I’ve not lost any data, but I’m quite pissed off.

That’s not the way to do things, Fairphone.

@Roboe
I had this freezing during unlocking and several reboots. This is my first FP Open update that went wrong.
After that I did a factory reset and started my app installations and phone setup from zero.
It is not that bad for me, I see it as a chance to clean up but -

Isn’t there any file manager included in FP Open anymore? Amaze or something?
This is very uncomfortable since it means that the first thing I have to do is open an internet connection to download f-droid and then a file manager to get to my sdcard’s content, where I have a security app and my wlan key…

Same here. After reboot I have ui freezes and a little bit later, it reboots in a loop.

I didn’t check, but according to a blog entry here you can go to settings, storage and usb, explore. That’s a basic file manager

On my phone Amaze is still there. But I mostly use Total Commander anyway, so I can’t remember whether I did something to Amaze to make it stay …

Edit: It’s in my F-Droid’s list, so I must have reinstalled it some time early on and don’t remember.

Well, i definitely had the correct xposed… But maybe flashing this after upgrading is the wrong way. I tried clearing system, but to no avail. Then i made a gaffe and did a factory reset, instead of wiping system and data… Luckily, i had a recent backup of data that’s not in twrp/tibu backups.
My caldav (with owncloud) works flawless

One thing though… Pulling up the home button seems to not work any longer? I switched my device off with this functionality, and i miss it… (Default was to open search)

I was hoping for more luck the next day. It was in cyclic reboots half the night until I turned it off at some point. Now when I turned it on it’s a mix of reboot and ui freeze. This sucks.

Luckily, I did one as part of my standard update routine.

Nevertheless, it is an annoying routine. I’m really disappointed! After waiting so long for this upgrade, hoping that it will fix quite a few issues I have with my open OS right now, the upgrade rendered the phone completely useless and I will have to waste some time now trying to downgrade! Highly annoyed and disappointed indeed! :rage:
