Its all just software, the hardware is more or less unimportant.
Two points here: If you need to buy a second device (a camera) because the Fairphone camera is not good enough, and the camera is potentially made with child labor, then that negates some of the effect of having bought a Fairphone.
It used to be true (some 10-15 years ago) that phone cameras were not very good. Nowadays, even photo journalists use phones (mostly iPhone in my experience). Itâs possible that a lot of that is possible due to software.
I bought my Canon camera in 2012. But itâs big and bulky and of course I donât have it in my hands when something happens. My Fairphone 4 is always around. I was hoping for an upgrade in image quality with the Fairphone 6, but if it now turns out to be a downgrade⊠hmm. The zoom feature is something I have started missing on family vacations when I wanted to take a picture from a distance of people and buildings.
As for why I am referring to the Nothing Phone 3A Pro and not one of the leading camera phones: If the leak is correct, the Fairphone 6 shares the CPU and the main cameras seem to be similar.
To my knowledge the living wage bonus paid by Fairphone doesnât go down the supply chain that deep. Before I post something wrong (or before this line of thought becomes too off-topic), please have a look at their latest impact report.
Less megapixels does not necessarily mean a downgrade.
The actual sensors that are used are not yet leaked or known, but the wide-angle camera is (specification wise) the same as in the Google Pixel 9a. I know, the 9a is a budged phone, but the price tag is near the FP6 if the leaked prices are correct.
And the front camera has a (way) better aperture compared to the FP5, which is (depending on the application) more important then a massive amount of MP that no one uses.
Side-note: Most of the photos that we use are sent via messenger services, therefore getting compressed to really small sizes. And for printing them out, a resolution of 13MP should be more then enough (unless you want to wallpaper an entire wall).
The yearly double blind test with millions of people voting organized by MKBHD is also very cool! The FP5 scored better in some tests than the iPhone.
Yeah i already seen this video but forgot it Thanks to shared it
ok, but in the end the FP5 scores 17th out of 20 phones. Not exactly a winner. And every phone scored higher that the iPhone in that one test.
I hear all you pointing out that the software is more important than the pixel count. Hopefully FP has been strategic in their choice of cameras so that we get some with good software support for a long time - possibly by choosing the same cameras/lenses that are used by other manufacturers.
Print outs of a 13MP photo at 300 DPI will be a little smaller than A3 typically if my calculations are correct. I agree that for many purposes, that will be enough.
Okay, youâve convinced me to wait until the announcement on the 25th before getting another phone. With the 2027 EU battery deadline, I assume this will be the last time I will buy a phone with so few options with exchangeable batteries available.

As Roland Quandt from Winfuture found out through a careless retailer, the Fairphone 6 is characterized by more modern components and a smaller screen compared to its predecessor. Instead of a 6.46-inch OLED screen with 90 Hz, the new Fairphone generation will have a 6.31-inch POLED based on LTPO, which supports a dynamic refresh rate of one to 120 Hz.
They did exactly that in the past, e.g. the FP3 hat the same sensor like the Pixel 3a
Maybe there will be an 8gb / 16gb option with how the fp5 has 6gb / 8gb
Will have to see
I had noticed that in the shop under âall partsâ thereâs a filter option for The Fairphone (Gen 6) although no items under it âŠ
Just bought a new bottom module for my FP3, though.
Hi, I am a bit skeptical about the dimensions and the screen ratio as the other set of dimensions is also in circulation
Maybe with these components, Fairphone will finally be able to release a phone that has a competitive battery runtime. I mean, coming from the FP2, my current FP5 was a huge step forward already, but with the OLED screen not being able to really make a battery friendly AOD it looks like thereâs still quite some room for improvement: The LTPO display of the FP6 can decrease the refresh rate if properly controlled, the processor is at home in the smartphone world and not in IoT applications. There were rumors that the latter one may be unable to sleep well enough if it has to power the AOD, so we should see improvements here - Iâm pretty sure Fairphone cannot allow themselves a missing or energy-hungry AOD again. I think this can be a good phone, but letâs see what it looks like when itâs released.

How good is the SM7635 Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 (4 nm) ?
Is it a low/medium/high range processor?
I saw that itâs a ARMv9-based SoC.
Oh, a battery that is held by screws. I can already hear the complaints from the people who currently carry around a bag of batteries to change them by the hour and then have their back cover broken. But maybe that isnât a too big issue anymore if the battery runtime of 53:25 h is close to the reality.
@oli.sax To get an impression, I searched for a comparison with the FP5 chipset:
I think the âmysteryâ has been solved:
For me the lower part looks like a slightly curved hole so that one can put his finger inside and slide down to remove the back coverâŠ
